Most files online are fidget toys or comic book/video game models that don't interest me, and I would still have to sand, prime, and paint to make them look decent

I got my brother and nephew one for Christmas and they love it.

But to be fair, they really like printing fidget toys and comic book/video game junk. And custom legos.

I saw a lady that upscaled the Lego Christmas tree and made a 6’ tall one.

And yes that’s the kind of stuff I’d use it for.

You can fabricate things and replace things your can't buy. But other than that it's an expensive toy.

Topside and subsea valves. Most 20K, some 30K and 60K. Also Relief, POCVs, checks, etc. a few others but if I say what kind most offshore drilling guys will immediately recognize my company.

Someone like Darth, who makes models, might enjoy it, but I don't see the usefulness of spending money on a printer and filament.

I could actually use a 3D printer to make a 1:35 scale M1919 Browning .30 cal air cooled machine gun right about now.

The product matters, but it’s not the point for me. If the end product is the goal, buying it would be easier.

Looking at something where the router head can be swapped for a laser module. Laser engraving would be fun.

What’s being done with 3D printers in Healthcare and Metal Manufacturing is amazing. I personally have a lot of experience on the healthcare side, and it’s a blast.

You have a tool looking for work. People who actually use them have work for which it is a tool. I keep my office supplies, cords, wires, small electronics bits like earbud tips, batteries, etc all organized on three Ikea peg boards. I have printed quite a few custom hooks for various applications. I have printed a few replacement parts for plastic bits that have broken around the house.

Outside of maybe occasionally needing to design and print a small part that you can't find online to repair something, what am I missing?

Chance favors the prepared individual

One guy in WV made $21,000. I'd say the printers and filament was worth it.
