And ‘indecent behavior with a juvenile’ does not mean rape or sex but it is considered a sex crime
It could mean touching or an inappropriate conversation - not that it makes this any better but there’s a big difference to me if a priest told a dirty joke to a bunch of teenagers or if he touched them inappropriately
But unfortunately it’s the same charge
Ftr im not a lawyer

He seems pretty questionable from watching that video

They’re not putting a priest in jail for telling a dirty joke

He seems like most other young guys from Lafayette

I do find it ironic that the priest that is working really hard to get Charlene Richard canonized is now all of a sudden being accused of something
I know a priest who was arrested and laicized for drinking whiskey with teenage boys and their fathers.

Brandon Scott Lavergne was convicted of the 2012 kidnapping and murder of Michaela "Mickey" Shunick. He is currently serving two life sentences in prison in Louisiana.
I know Lavergne's that are black--do you think they are related to Brandon?
Pretty sure Korey is from the Dequincy area, though.

She is terrible. Thankfully she only anchors on the weekend sometimes.

Looks like he put on about 50 lbs since then but it's definitely him.

Damn that seems extreme. I don't see how that's even possible if the kids' fathers were present unless the fathers were also arrested and all the adults were charged with something like contributing to the delinquency of a minor. That happened to my cousin and I back in the 90's when we were drinking at an LSU tailgate. I was only 16 and he was 21. But even then they just gave us each a ticket and made us pour out all the beer.

Am I the only one who thinks we should take a "wait and see" attitude? Maybe a lawyer can chime in but from what I have seen posted this is not nearly as bad as it could have been in terms of sex crimes.
Children are absolutely capable of lying about sexual abuse especially when coached by an adult. Google "McMartin Preschool case" if you don't believe me. It was the longest and most expensive prosecution in the history of the United States and led to exactly zero convictions.
I think the priest should have his day in court before people jump to conclusions.

He was turned in by another priest. I would think the priest who let the authorities know about the situation had to be quite certain of wrong doings, especially being another man of the cloth. I attended mass there a couple of times, he seemed um...eccentric.

Well that would make the Catholic Church an accessory to the crime wouldn’t you think?

Can you elaborate. I am truly interested in knowing more about this. Thanks.

That's all I know. I have family around there and haven't heard any other details. It does look like they've feeding him well in Richard lol

It was extreme and ironically this was before the shite hit the fan with the several thousand abuse cases later to be discovered (not with that priest but with the archdiocese of NOLA) Seems as if some superiors in the Catholic Church are one extreme or the other

quote:no, because not every single bishop or cardinal knew what other bishops (or cardinals) were doing - sometimes a bishop would send a priest elsewhere and the receiving bishop had no idea what had gone on

This was a report yesterday, not sure if it was posted on here. The BR Diocese has some more lawsuits to deal with.
In March of 2024, Supreme Court Justices ruled in a 4-3 decision that legislators had violated the state constitution when they removed the statute of limitations for sexual abuse claims and provided victims a temporary window to file lawsuits. In May 2024, the court stated that it would review the decision, and in June, it reversed itself.
Most of the newly filed lawsuits identify clergy members who appeared on the Diocese of Baton Rouge's list of credibly accused individuals, released in 2019.
Included in these newest lawsuits filed since June of 2024 are:
- John Joseph Berube, St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church (Deceased)
- Carmelo Camenzuli, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pierre Part (Deceased)
- Rodrigue Hemond, Immaculate Conception Church in Scotlandville & St. Thomas More (Deceased)
- Myles Kearney, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville (Priestly faculties removed in 2002)
- Clyde Landry, St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gonzales & St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge (Deceased)
- Daniel Lemoine, Immaculate Conception Church in Denham Springs (Priestly faculties removed in 1999)
- Jesse R. Ortego, Holy Rosary Church in St. Amant (Left diocese in 1981)
- Christopher Joseph Springer, St. Pius X Catholic Church in Baton Rouge & St. Gerard Majella Church in Baton Rouge (Laicized in 1990)
The lawsuits also name 12 additional clergy members who were not on the original 2019 list. In the court records, victims as young as five describe the abuse they suffered. The dates of abuse range from 1963 to 1993.
