I know a guy who used to own an agency with State Farm and he gave it up. He said they were into some really shady business practices and wasn’t comfortable being involved at that level anymore.
Heard the same thing from a friend of mine who may have worked for guy you know. Said it was weird having to talk with Jake at 3 am in the morning - felt like something was off big time when all they’re supposed to be selling is insurance, estate planning,IRAs and annuities.

ZERO leads and the phone will not ring. Get ready to market (hit up) all of your friends and family. Very few entering this business have a natural market.

Also a lead is when someone responds to an advertisement and asks someone to contact them. A lead is not a list of people who own homes, are turning 65, or make 100k per year. That’s called a marketing list not a lead. Financial recruiters love to say that have tons of leads when talking to potential hires.

You could always launder money for the cartel in the ozarks

You need to walk away from that BS. All they will do is teach you half-truths and untruths to use in selling mutual funds (and life insurance - bet they didn't mention this part).
NML has a really sleazy reputation in the investment adviser world. Go to the White Coat Investor Financial Advisor Forum LINK and check out their reputation. It's really bad (and I'm the owner of several NML life insurance policies I bought many years ago - before I learned about their system).

Life insurance companies are always going to push life insurance as an investment (outside of term portfolio)..... Rare cases it’s appropriate....99% of the time it’s not suitable for the client but highly profitable for the insurance companies and agents.

If you’re a respected individual and friends with rich people that trust you with their money then it’s a great job. The financial reps I know that make bank worked in NYC after college for a few years then came back and took over their fathers firm.

You sound like a real-life version of Gil Gunderson from the Simpsons.

you never stop prospecting and if you hate cold calling find something else to do

And remember the golden rule... Coffee is for closers.

I turned down northwestern mutual. They "wanted me" because I am prior military and they are wanting to capture that market (locally).
I was a recruiter in the military and I told the guy it sounded great, but I wasnt about to put in the time and energy to do that type of work again.
If you have lots of friends/family/colleagues that want to invest their money, then sure. There are catches though.
Cant remember what the exact figure, but iirc, most don't last two years but the ones who do will make a career out of it. I think the key was to get to 100 clients to be making pretty decent money.

Do you like cold calling and bothering people? I did that for a while and made damn good money. But it’s a very difficult field
I did stocks and investments. The leafs the company provides are usually dead leads. You’ll need to build your own book of business and always get referrals. And you have to be able to hear no a lot. But that one yes can make your month. But you always have to be closing
