My favorite all-time car is the legendary rally car the Alpine A110.

Of course I'm sure their scarcity make them unaffordable.

I am outraged that the modern version of this car was never homologated for US sales, and is about to be discontinued.

Now I am reading that Alpine (Renault) considers the US an important market and plans to introduce an SUV as a volume model to make the business case for a US presence. But by the time this happens, the current A110 will be replaced by an EV version of the A110. Why can't we have nice things???

This is easy for me with the price constraints: Lotus Elise

You can get a higher mileage one in the 20s, and a nice once in the high 30s. LINK

I think I only have one dream car and it's an LFA and that's nowhere near affordable. From what I've read/seen, the Elise is the best bang for your buck experience and easily fits in this price range. You can even get a cheaper one and save the difference for service/repairs.

*ETA: and this car would be illegal as shite today and will not be replicated in the future.

The XK120s at that price need a lot of love. A good one goes for more like $100k.

This is correct. You may find a good 140 or 150 closer to that price range and they are arguably a better car than the 120.

Sub-$45K?

It's not easy to find a 930 for less than $145K. They exist but usually have been well loved and/or need work.

Early 3 liter or G50 cars are in the $200ks. Real Slants can be double that.

I had a YZ125 when I was a teenager.. neighbor got a KX250 and I was jealous. Wanted one ever since! Even used KX250's are $5k to $8k around here.. but someday

In college I used to buy and sell four wheelers and dirt bikes. Get some non running and get them going or just find good deals. Would ride most of them for a little bit then sell.

I kick myself for not keeping a handful of them. Had a pristine 2012 Yamaha Banshee (last year they of production) that I sold for probably under 4K and a mint 2000 CR500 with a handful of hours on it for around 5K. That one would fetch close to 20K in the same condition/hours today.

Used to buy mint Yamaha Raptors and KX250's for under 3K all the time.

I haven't been in one in a very long time. A HS girlfriend's dad had a E46 330Ci convertible but it had no B-pillar to worry about.

Always loved the style of these 80's Toyota mini vans. Would love to pick one up cheap and make a little camper out of it

I like the Pontiac GTO. I think they were only around for about 10 years right? Maybe there were some later models, but I know there are a few places and I am not even sure where, but you can get the inside of a classic car completely upgraded for current technology and while I wouldn't want to do that if I only had one classic car, but if I was loaded and had a bunch of cars, I would want to do it to a car. Have purple neon lights light up behind the tented windows and a black paint job...
