avacado green and harvest gold

Definitely were the colors. My parents place built in 75 had a avocado bathroom (toilet and shower) and a harvest gold bathroom (toilet and shower).

Also colonial wallpaper in kitchen celebrating the bicentennial. Shag carpet, etc. It was pretty horrid until they remodeled over the Yeats.

Mom (no pics) said they just didn't have much of a choice on things. That was all that was being offered at the time.

I think ours was like that.

My dad ran out and bought a microwave when they came out. It cost something like $600 and my mom was not pleased.

It lasted forever.

You talking the kitchen, or embracing modernity? Because a lot of baby boomers already owned houses in the 1970s.

Harvest Gold and Avocado Green

The colors of my early childhood. Well, that and mood ring colors.

My parents didn’t have a 7O’s kitchen, they went from their 50’s kitchen to an 80’s one.. Finally remodeling after 30 years..

My mom went from cooking on this...

To this..

She didn't know what to do..

We had one of those avocado green stoves and refrigerators well into the early 90's. They came with the house when my folks bought it in 1976. My mother (no pics) wanted some new appliances, but my old man was all about not spending money if something wasn't broken. Finally, around 1993 my mother (again, no pics) said frick it, I'm getting me some new shite, so she did. My uncle took the fridge and put it in his workshop. That mother fricker is still working to this day.

My grandparents kitchen was something right out of 1960. They kept it in impecciable condition, and I loved it. My grandfather was another "take care of your shite, and if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of guy. They sold that house in 1993. It came onto the market again about three or four years ago, so I checked out the listing on the real estate website. The cabinets were still the same, tile, backsplash, countertop, and even the stove was still there. I was impressed.

We still have an oven from 1975 in our kitchen. It's not green but it is pretty ugly at this point. It works like a tank though so I'm hesitant to replace it with modern junk

Quite ugly, but so is all this white/gray "farm"house crap that dominates today.

right. the boomers abandoned this timeless, beautiful style by taking out second mortgages to renovate their kitchens to more modern styles

And, if you had a kitchen that looked like that you probably had one of these behemoth TV's that weighed almost as much as a Volkswagen.

Grandma had one of these bad boys in her living room, when it went out the new TV sat on top for way longer than it ever should have. It took me, my brother and my dad to finally move that thing to the curb.
