When people say Jaguar like Jag-wire. There's no w, i, or e in the fricking word people. It's pronounced jag-wahr. Get it right.

We lease some land from a Taliaferro pronounced Tolliver here in NELA.

quote:

Taliaferro (/'t?l?v?r/ TOL-i-v?r), also spelled Talliaferro, Tagliaferro, Talifero, Tellifero or Taliferro and sometimes anglicised to Tolliveror Toliver,[1] is a prominent family in eastern Virginia and Maryland. The Taliaferros (originally Tagliaferro, Italian pronunciation: [?ta??a'f?rro], which means "ironcutter" in Italian) are one of the early families who settled in Virginia in the 17th century. They migrated from London, where an ancestor had served as a musician in the court of Queen Elizabeth I. The surname in that line is believed to trace back to Bartholomew Taliaferro, a native of Venice who settled in London and was made a denizen in 1562.[2]

even the idiot girls on our local TV news and weather pronounce the word MOUNTAIN as ...Mount-un. others:

did-un for didn't
cud-un for couldn't

we recently had an air-show whch included a P-51-C Mustang that the Tuskegee Airmen flew. The local new gal didn't know how to say it. She tried and finally came out with ......
Tus-ka-jellaaa after trying to say Tug-a-kegley.

New Orleans being pronounced New Awwlins. It’s not only in movies, I hear it somewhat frequently. Baton Rouge being pronounced without the soft G kills me.
