I agree it should be a choice but it’s really dumb not wear one just like not wearing a seatbelt is.

Difference between someone, or a few, cruising along in their lane acting like other regular vehicles AND crotch rockets zipping around in packs. Throws a driver off trying to figure out where the swarm is.

Ie...yall motorcycle enthusiasts need to police each other, no matter the type of bike.

Ideally, yes. But only if zero public dollars went toward the medical bills of people that chose not to wear them.

If your private insurance will cover you, you can ride in just your boxers for call I care.

so explain to me how the public would pay for someones medical bills?
Everyone has to have insurance now. I have a surgery my son has to get this year. How do i get the public to help pay for it?

False.

The fatality rate per 100,000 registered motorcycles was 21.3% lower in 2014 than it was in 2004. The fatality rate per million vehicle miles traveled was 42% lower.

When I worked trauma in Kentucky I saw so many motorcycle crashes with just horrible outcomes. Even if they survived people were losing limbs and having severe brain injuries.

One guy lost control and went off an overpass at high speed and landed on his butt on the street below. The shearing force completely avulsed his arse from his body. He had to get a colostomy because his colon was emptying directly into the wound and would never heal. He was in his 20’s.

That's such an idiotic saying. Maybe if someone drops dead from a sudden brain bleed who was otherwise young and healthy you can spew this line. It just doesn't hold water when you talk about people who fly down the interstate on a motorcycle not wearing a helmet or someone who enjoys rock climbing with no safety gear.

Naw. Weather is getting about right for the weekend riders to dust off their scoots.

More bikes on the road = More accidents.

The ignorance of the people behind the wheels of their cages remains constant.

I ride to work. Its great. I dont rip 95 down a 35mph road. I stay away from cars. If you ride like an idiot then youre gonna get in trouble. Cruising on a bike at 40mph on a nice road on a nice 70 degree day is hard to beat

Well, the fog was terrible this morning.

And the man killed in Denham Springs did nothing wrong, he was killed at the hands of another driver. Not by his own mistakes.

Many motorcycle victims are great riders and the accident is not their fault, but still get killed or handicapped. Thus, still a questionable activity if gonna ride in city traffic, or in bad weather conditions.

Like my grandfather said when I was young, it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are, it's the other folks you have to watch out for...

Cycling doesn't allow the rider at least some protective barrier vs bad driver's mistakes..it's perfection or bust.

I can’t understand for the life of me why some people don’t at least wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. I know someone that will wear diapers for the rest of his life because he chose not to wear a helmet.

Well its the law in Louisiana.

And I have no clue where "Bocage Circle" is located. Is that what they are calling the street by Panera Bread going to the new apartments?

The number of cars on the road has increased a lot. It is easy to point to cellphones but even if everyone didn't have one it would be a lot more dangerous on the roads now than years ago.

Heck, I can remember driving on a major highway in Mississippi when I was 13 with my old man. Just learning to drive. Not many cars on the road. I drove that road not long ago and it was full of traffic. I sadly thought my kids won't get the experiences I had and not anything related to cellphones.

The times have changed. Motorcycles on major roads just isn't smart. I don't care if they are there but if someone gets killed on one then don't blame someone else.

What about when its not your time, and you are just paralyzed, or your brain function is reduced to that of a 4 years old forcing your kids to take care of you for the rest of your life?

I don't think you understand probabilities.

It’s all about the freedom and choice. I’ve rode without helmets before. And I’ll. Used to ride with only skid lids. But I had never been in an accident at the time. Since I’ve gone down a few times, I only wear my full face. But I feel it should be freedom of choice. If you don’t want to wear it don’t. But don’t hate when you become a vegetable.

Agree, but my motto is if you have a 5 dollar head wear a 5 dollar helmet.

But not everyone has insurance but they’ll be treated anyway. Then they’ll go on disability.

I do understand probability, and I do understand I increase the chance of dying much younger and making my kids fatherless if I was in an accident,

But other people being jackass’s behind the wheel, or increased traffic, or smart phones are not reasons I will ever park my scoot, That will be my choice whenever I decide not to ride again. No one else’s. I fought for my right to freedom, and everyone else’s freedom. That includes opinion, lifestyle, and vehicle of choice. If I want to cruise st 50 mph in a 65 enjoying the weather. Or do 100+ from Natchitoches to Houma at 3 am on empty roads it’s my choice. I know my ability in my scoot, And I don’t know the ability of the cages around me. Won’t stop me from riding solo or in a pack. We all have different opinions and views, which is exactly what makes this country great. Not nocking anyone who doesn’t like mine, and I won’t knock anyone else’s, Just asking the same in return.

I’ve been in CA for a while now and rode a bike here from the start. Then 6 months after my boy was born I got clipped on the freeway. No serious damage but I haven’t been back on a street bike since, except for putting a buddies around the neighborhood. I miss it can’t lie. MX and off-road is where I get my two wheel kicks nowadays.
