It seems to have peaked, imo. But, it did get worse for years and is still bad. I think it is on the downtrend with things like Uber.

The dude fell off the front of the boat. How drunk was he??? Would he have fell out if the driver was sober???? I’m not saying driving a boat while drunk is ok at all. But it’s something to think about as far as the driver being charged with homicide…..

operator is responsible for the safety of the occupants

There's a launch beside Boopalu's bar on the Tickfaw and I bet 4 out of 5 captains are intoxicated when coming off the river.
Hell, people in their trucks can’t even figure out the launch setup there, and that’s before getting into a boat and getting hammered.
Great people watching there.

Most boat operators are dangerous enough sober. Put these guys under the jail.

Why do people not get that hauling arse in a boat after drinking is so freaking stupid

Wh I’llle I understand this, what if the guy was messing around in a way the caused himself to fall off???
Posted on 7/25/22 at 11:25 am to dukke v
Operator should have had him get off the bow before getting underway.

operator of the vessel is ultimately responsible for the safety of the passengers, the weight of the crown is mighty

False River gets insanely busy on summer weekends. Kind of surprised more accidents don't happen there.

Probably a better law enforcement presence on FR. I see LAWF out there most weekends.

A 7:15AM fishing beer is one of the better beers. Right up there with a 5pm garage beer don't forget the 4am lighting the fire in the smoker for smoking a pork shoulder, brisket, and ribs beer, baw
Or the 8pm shower beer after mowing the lawn. Preceded by the 4-5 lawn mowing beers.
Or the couple beers, or maybe a margarita, at lunch time at the local Mexican restaurant. The one that lets you know you only have 4-5 more hours till you’re off work.

Completely agree, but I kind of agree with Peej on this one (oh my!). If this guy didn't know that bow riding was dumb as shite before he got drunk, is liquor really to blame for this accident as a lot of people are saying in this thread? You can be just as dumb sober as drunk.

Come to the Ms Delta. It’s way worse. It’s actually a thing to mix a whiskey drink before driving anywhere over 20 min away. And not just young adults, most older people do it too. “I’m gonna mix a drink for the drive” is a commonly heard quote

I get what both of you are saying, I'm just referencing what the law says, the operator should brief his passengers on boat safety and make sure that he conducts the operation of the vessel in accordance with the laws(and we all know how that works out,) he is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and the safety of his passengers

I have yet to see anyone in a boat with alcohol here in Alaska. I’ve also yet to see anyone without a life jacket.
I tournament fish here in Alabama. Per tournament rules, I can be disqualified if the motor is running and I don't have a lifejacket on or the kill switch attached. Needless to say, but alcohol during tournament hours is also a disqualification.
So, whenever I go recreationally, I always wear a lifejacket and kill switch and very rarely drink. It's just common sense.

I think we'd get along just fine, baw

Almost same situation as the girl riding in front of the gate on the pontoon and fell over the front. This guy was riding the bow and fell over the front and got hit by the prop. Both situations the boat operator was drunk. If in the right state of mind, the operators in both situations could have realized the danger the passengers were putting themselves in.
I kind of disagree.
I’m guessing there is more to the story than the guy fell off the side of the boat. How does the captain get charged with vehicular manslaughter for that? He can’t control what his friend is doing the entire time he is trying to drive. Regardless of wether he is drunk or not.
If his friend just fell off the boat while he was driving normally I don’t see what alcohol had to do with this
It’s a lot like the doctor in BR who had a glass of wine and got hit head on by a sober driver but still got charged with DUI and manslaughter.
