I have tried in New Orleans to get these changed. Here is the jist of what I have sent to community leaders.
1.Anyone owning a dog must pay a 1 time fee per dog.
2.If the dog isn't fixed, you must pay a yearly fee.
3.You have to get all dogs microchipped.
4.If you are found to violate this, you will get a fine.
5.Mutliple infractions and you lose the right to own any dog
6.If your dog attacks/bites someone, you lose the dog
7.If you have multiple instances of your dog getting loose or not on a leash in public(outside of your fenced in yard) you lose the right to own any.
This would help raise money for all SPCA shelters and help control a lot of the negatives of dogs in our society.

Since he got a good laugh and tried to make fun of me as being a city boy that didn't know what I was talking about. shite he is in his 40s and hunted his entire life and it's comical that I would try to convince him that anyone would ever use one of the pit bull breeds to hunt!!!! I mean he lives in bama and he know EVERYTHING

Are you denying that there is a certain demographic that is more inclined to own these types of dogs? I concede to you that the Walmart comment was narrow-minded; I should have said in any store parking lot that accepts EBT.
Do you think there are many Ivy League, MIT, or Cal Tech graduates that own pit bulls? Not likely. I know I'd never consider it.

I'm not sure, but if bet that there are some Ivy League grads with pits.
I can tell you that I know a ton of state university grads and some with graduate degrees that own pits. Several in my family.
I will say that it is very unfortunate that ghetto trash likes the breed because that makes narrow minded people think you have to be trash to own one.

pretty much all that needs to be said. If you own one of these trash symbols, don't be mad when you're associated with trash.
There is not really any debate. These dogs and their owners are the epitome of trash.
There are too many other options if you're an animal lover to choose
from.
The only reason to have one is to try and make up for some inadequacy in your personal life OR you're just too trashy to tell the difference

Actually it is fairly common to see hog hunters with a pit to use as a catch dog. I'm not sure where you grew up but this catch dog thing isn't new. I am not a fan of the pit bull but I know they are used in this capacity and the dogs are very proficient at it.

I agree with you
there's a lot that can be said about pit bulls... I've only been around a handful and the ones I've been around were well socialized, behaved, and were a lot of fun to play with...
people get to caught up on stereotypes and think that every pit and every person who owns a pit bull ='s trash when that's not the case

This is the kind of stuff I'm thinking about. Responsible owners, who want a Pit Bull will do it. Those that aren't up to snuff, will the can get a cat for all I care. They should also have to carry the registration papers with them when in public with the dog. If the dog is involved in an incident there should be a punishment. If dog is in public off a leash or without a muzzle the owner gets fined or jail time.
