Man, that glove is cool as hell! I would try to find something old-time baseball pictures with players using that kind of glove. Better yet find an old baseball card with that kind of glove.
I’m not even a baseball dude, but I like that a lot!

Call Williamsport Director of Little League Museum. Lance Van Aken.

The baseball hall of fame has got an article that I found called “evolution of the baseball glove” that might be of interest.

Try looking up a Wilson Ball Hawk 3-A2252. This post was edited on 12/7/25 at 8:21 pm

I did but the stitching on the webbing of the glove you posted is different than the one we picked up.

From the article:
So it’s definitely pre 1957.
Who knew baseball gloves could be so fascinating?
quote:
Although there were nearly 100 glove design patents from 1920 to 1957, none were as revolutionary as Wilson’s new glove. In spring training 1957, Wilson introduced a glove designed mostly by the players.
According to the first reference in the 1958 Wilson catalog: “The glove, known as the A2000, has a bigger, longer pocket…the ball stays trapped and caught, yet easy to retract for your split-second throw. That’s the amazing Snap-Action feature! The deep, sewed-in, Grip-Tite pocket allows No Rebound! That ball just can’t pop out again!”
So it’s definitely pre 1957.

That glove is SWEET! I'm a baseball guy and would have absolutely LOVED getting something like that when I was 17 just to hang on to as a piece of baseball history. Your grandson will love it for sure!

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication by him and his family to get to that level at 17.
Kudos to all of them. Hope he keeps making his dreams come true and then dreams up some new ones.

You could post it on this baseball glove forum and maybe get some more info from someone there.

Get a pencil and lightly inscribe “DiMaggio 5” somewhere on it.

This boy, at 4 years old, was just in love with baseball. He would watch the games on tv. Literally fall asleep with his glove. Get out by himself and work on his batting and throwing. He’s truly a rare breed that has a deep passion - and yes, his parents are amazing and supportive.
The only sad thing I heard was a comment his agent told him about professional baseball (agent used to play). He said once it becomes a job they drive the passion out of you and it kills the love for playing…. But, he’s 17. He can worry about that when the time comes. We foster the love for the game.

Contact Wilson and tell them what you have.
Over the years I’ve found glove companies to be very helpful restoring part of their history.

The glove has patent number(s) on it USD140859 a google search resulted in a patent for it filed Feb 8, 1945 by Archibald J. Turner for Wilson Athletic Goods Mfg. There’s a sketch in the patent as well looks identical to your glove.

I played in college and it was eye opening how fast it went from loving the heck out of it all my life to "this is your job and you'd better perform or we'll find someone who will," very blunt, business like, and pretty cold blooded

Yeah, that pretty much sums up what he was told. It’s sad. I get it but it’s still sad.
