Anytime Fitness. Not very happy with corporate at all, they constantly undermine the owner and force unnecessary spending.
I franchised my own company, that particular location is doing OK. I don’t know of any small businesses or franchises that had a kickass or even good 2024. It’s been all pain.

Worked for a McDonald's franchise operation for 12 years, had 12 stores. Hard to screw up McD's, but the restaurant business is tough. Labor situation got really tough in the late 90's when you had to hire folks who can't speak English. Good thing was, you always had big brother behind you ( McDonald's Corp. ) when there was a problem.

What are their buy-in requirements?

Ephedrine. Got it!
Not quite. It was complex carbs. Several ingredients with little to no taste were discontinued over the years due to rising costs. I can’t imagine how high the costs are now. I was lucky to have sold when I did.

Have some friends that have opened several in various niches and are doing pretty well for themselves.

I once worked with a dude that owned a blimpies franchise out by LSU. He lost his arse monetarily

Did you know, most of the gulf coast Taco Bell franchises between Mobile and Houston are owned by a couple from Morgan City, Louisiana? They have over 190 franchises. It is called B&G Foods Enterprises. Their offices are still in Morgan City, LA.

Thanks man.
Later this month, I’ll share on the OT and the powers that be will move it to another board if fitting.
Been working on this for 9 months.
Excited to see it launch.
Opening date March 3 (day before Mardi Gras).

PJ’s Coffee franchisee here. Very happy with our decision. Only one right now but want to get into more locations.

I know a husband and wife that opened a subway at least 15 years ago. I’ve never heard them say it was the best decision they ever made. However, they now own two more. One happens to be in a Walmart.
There’s also a guy in Covington that plays in a tennis league who owns many dominos pizza. So many so that he has a private jet. I don’t know him personally but it looks as if business is doing well.
A neighbor of mine has a canes in Baton Rouge area. Not sure which one but he does have a business partner. From
The looks of it he’s doing well. He’s looking to get another.

I know a guy who owns multiple across small towns in relatively same area. Made a killing for years. One in particular was next to my HS with off campus lunch. Every student ate there at least once a week.

McDonalds. Seems an odd hill to die on. Lots of traffic on the main road there though. As a coffee shop franchisee I wouldn't want to set up shop across the street from that level of existing competition

A friend of mine from college manages 4-5 sports clips type of hair cut locations. His dad is the owner and has owned them for years. No idea how well they’re doing exactly but both dad/mom and son live in fairly large houses out by the Met in Hoover.
i friend of mine's wife is a CPA. She did the books for one of the locations in the Baton Rouge area. They do better than you think.

I'm amazed at their location strategy. One here (Trussville) opened in the same shopping center parking lot as Starbucks.
That location is also weird because you can’t really see it’s even there from one side of the road. Kinda in a hole.

I would love to buy a franchise or an existing business, but so many require capital investments that are not realistic if you're a standard corporate/office drone.
Those of you who have bought in and done well, how did you handle financing and liquidity requirements?

I was part of one but broke off and individualized. I know several multiple franchise owners and they’re all very happy with it, historically, although have seen recent frustrations with their various franchisors.

For a new business, SBA loans are common. There are banks that are preferred lenders and will help with the extensive documentation process. They get paid but they also know exactly what the SBA wants to see and some specialize in franchise funding.
If you want to buy an existing business, you can get funding from banks. They will require a couple years of the business's financials in addition to everything else.
Either way, you'll be required to inject some equity. SBA is 20%. Banks can vary.
