Interestingly enough, got a text today stating my doctor ordered me a medical exercise bike and they will contact me this week to schedule delivery.

Didn't know that was a thing.

I had the ROM-Tech bike. Bluetooth’s info back to your physician.

I'm 44 and with the amount of noise my knees make when I walk I'm sure a replacement is in my future.

p t is useful to build up muscle around the knee joint. It may contribute to bone on bone wear following loss of cartilage. Bone on bone wear is not reversible

Every single person I know who has had a TKR, which I would estimate at about 10-12 people, has said it changed their life for the better, that they should have done it sooner, etc etc.

I’m not looking forward to the post surgical pain, but I’m ready for a more enjoyable existence.

One of the big moments for me was when I made a full revolution on the bike. Once I got past that I really started making progress.

All depends on how much pain you're in before surgery and how long you've suffered with the knee.

Had my replacement done 8 years ago. went really well. After the first 2-3 days I started weaning myself off the painkillers. Never used a walker but used a cane the first week just as a backup. I went upstairs/downstairs as I have a two story home.

The first thing I would do is find out who the local orthopaedic surgeons use for their personal knee replacements. That's the one you want to use.

Slippy, please come back and update us on how you are doing.

I went for my pre-op today and sat in a class with 8 other people having it done my same week by 2 doctors. wasn't expecting that, but I guess they would rather do that than give the speech individually

I know 3 people who have done it in the last few yrs. There is one old dude Dr in BTR that does nothing but that and all seems to go well. It will be important to do your stretches when that comes along to get your range of motion back.

How does this even happen, other than having an incompetent surgeon.

What'd they do... just eyeball it?

Probably not even that. Guy was totally incompetent. AND vindictive. The neighbor said she sassed him before the operation, so...

Tellin' ya -- her knee looks like a moon hubcap off a '39 Chevy.

I work with them all the time… one of the easiest surgeries to rehab next to total hip replacement. usually have very good outcomes as long as you do your exercises and mobilize, especially in early days. Most people are off assistive device in 1-2 weeks. Days 2-3 are worst for pain.
Can use ice as needed but not generally recommended around the clock as it can actually slow healing. Ice is ice, so you don’t need a fancy machine.
We do classes to prep people for surgery and know what to expect. Patients are usually up walking within a few hours after surgery. Also a good doctor makes a difference.
Good luck!
