If you want to do something outdoors there's the Audubon Nature Center on Lake Forest. I have elderly relatives that regularly use the walking paths there so maybe it's not too dangerous?

There are too many fine motels the length of Chef Menteur to count. I would recommend a walking tour of that Avenue and just take in the sights.
