I've had it a few times and it can be quite painful. Beer & red meat definitely don't help but unless you have chronic issues with it staying hydrated helps prevent it for me.

Most say alcohol can be bad for it, but I've found (from experience) that if you put down a fifth of your preferred spirits; the gout will be flushed out by the next morning. It doesn't help long term though and will probably come back in a few days. A big bowl of black cherries also works well along with coffee and plenty of water. Best thing to do is get a prescription for colchicine.

Good advice and true. But everyone should know that, even if you do these things, you're still going to get the occasional attack when your body goes out of balance. I caught a fever bug and it threw my body out of whack enough to cause an attack. I have a clean diet and am in extremely good shape for an old fricker.

I got a steroid shot in my big toe joint yesterday and that was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life. I was almost reduced to tears it hurt so bad. But it did clear it up asap.

This. Haven’t had a flare up in years

allopurinol 300m tabs. This stuff keeps you from getting gout attacks. My Dr. put me on this stuff when I was in my 30's, I'm mid 60's now and wouldn't consider not taking it.
But, it doesn't help if you are having an attack.
Colchicine (sp)works, but it will give you the flying shits.
It all about getting uric acid out of your blood stream either by pissing or the shits, instead of it crystalizing out and settling in lower joints that hurt like holy hell.

Water,water.water. I drink 32 ounces first thing in the morning and then 3-4 bottles throughout the day. Beer is my trigger and really nothing else so I’ve made the switch to straight bourbon with an occasional beer and have been able to control my flair ups without taking anything else. I really miss beer.

I’ve had it in several joints. Getting it in the knee was pure HELL. Home remedies and diets really vary in their effectiveness from person to person, here’s what helped me:
For acute flare ups: Tart cherry juice (several have mentioned black cherry, but I’ve always had way more success with tart cherry). Spend the extra money to get the Lakewood brand that is pure tart cherry, not a juice mix. Bragg Apple Cider vinegar (2 tablespoons in water with Stevia or honey. My father was having monthly flare ups and hasn’t in 2 months since he started doing this twice a day). Lots of water. Note: many bottled purified waters are actually acidic, so choose carefully. Aforementioned medical treatment (steroids, medications). My father also swears by CBD oral drops when he has a flare up, might be worth a try, but it’s not cheap.
Long term: make clean water the vast majority of your liquid intake. Alcohol (especially beer), soft drinks, coffee, tea, should be completely avoided or drunk rarely. Same goes for meat and seafood of all kinds, but especially red meat. Sugar and dairy are a huge trigger for me personally. Avoid acidic foods (all fast foods, most pre-packaged foods). Eat lot of leafy green vegetables. So basically, think of what would be the least fun way to eat and eat that way. Doctor can also try a preventative medication to lower uric acid levels such as Allopurinol. Lose weight if that’s an issue.
P.S. get your kidney function checked. Gout was an early sign of kidney disease in my case. Good luck

Take Colchicine for immediate relief. Then, as others have said, get on Allopurinol.

It'll cure your constipation, too.

A few years ago when I dealt with gout this helped me a lot.

This. I drink a lot of hoppy beers, but for years I've been drinking close to a gallon or a gallon per day and haven't had issues with it. I do blood work every year for my insurance and my uric acid levels are significantly lower form when I had gout.

Anyone deal with GOUT and have any at home remedy for the pain or how to make it relieve quicker? Thanks
I’ve had it for years. You need to go to the doctor. For immediate relief get the steroid pack or a big shot of Celestone. I’ll go to a quick care or urgent care place for this rather than waiting for an appt with the PCP. Then go to your regular doctor to have your Levels checked and get on Allopurinol.

I took this and it didn’t touch my pain at all. Only difference was I was in pain on the toilet. It’ll clear out anything in the intestines quick.

I take tart cherry pills daily and haven’t had an attack in three years. Still drink beer and eat nachos/shrimp. Still eat a lotta garbage, actually...but sweets were/are my worst trigger. Pies, ice cream, etc
