Trump has appointed someone as the new FCC chairman that is anti net neutrality. What this means is they will overturn the current regulation that treats the internet as a utility and will allow the ISP's to charge extra for where you use your bandwidth. So, you will not only pay for internet but where you go on the internet. If you don't want to pay for the ISP's "media package" you will get redirected to a slow lane of bandwidth when you want to use a streaming service. The bandwifth will make it intolerable to try to use something like Netflix.
More people need to be aware of this. It's complete bullshite.

Great video from John Oliver, little long but spells it out the first time this came up.

$50 locked for two years for 4 rooms and genie DVR. 250 channels and Sunday ticket
Only requirement is must have unlimited wireless from AT&T

Did dish and will never ever go back. So much better and cheaper

Did the same thing. Went from paying $180/month for cable and internet to $90 for internet and PlayStation vue. I've got 2 fire sticks and HD antenna and couldn't be happier.

Where I live there's enough competition between the providers so it's actually cheaper for me to get an internet/tv bundle through either spectrum or direct tv/att than it is for me to cut the cord.

This is not to be understated.
If you think big cable is going down without a fight, think again.
Those money hungry bastards are going to jump for joy when they can charge you for internet access and then charge you a separate fee to stream media also.
I am all about shrinking the government but net neutrality legislation was designed to prevent this scenario.

Yep, it's coming. We will see if competition will keep everyone in check. Here in Metairie with just Cox and AT$T not so much.

Dropped Cox 2 years ago for DishTV. Dropped DishTV a year ago and now use Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu. You can usually pick up live news events on the Youtube app channels.Digital antenna picks up local channels as well as about 30 others (like MeTV, Heroes and Icons, Grit, Bounce, etc) The only real problem is ESPN.You have to either use someone else's cable password for the app or you have to go somewhere else. My experience with Sling TV (which carries ESPN and ESPN2) was terrible, but I've heard others with more positive stories. I love when the the Tigers are on CBS.

Ditch Hulu and Amazon and get PlayStation vue for live TV

Just dropped Uverse for PS Vue.
Couldn't be happier.

I'm wondering how many people are doing this. I chose to get rid of Charter TV last month to save money. I find that I don't miss it all, when I can still watch whatever I want online. Streaming live sports, Netflix, AMC.com, etc.
Do you think the rate that people are discontinuing cable will continue to increase? I'm wondering how much this would impact these companies. They have to make a killing providing Internet regardless
I did last yr i have psvue, netflix and hulu best decision ever made lol

It will continue until they price their services appropriately.
That's what's happening now. There's very little marginal cost in adding subscribers; so once you open the doors in competition, prices will fall.
Cable companies acted as effective monopolies for 30 years. That's over.
And end to net neutrality could stifle some of this, by adding rent seekers into the flow. But competition should end that too, eventually.
Cable is obsolete...it's unnecessary. I'm sure some pols will try to erect some protectionist legislation - they always do for dying industries (see coal).

The end result will be people will stop cutting the cords and start using cable/sat again.
No they won't, if what you are saying is the truth which I think is debatable it'll just be a last ditch effort. The market is like the Miss river, it's gonna move. They can fight it all they want but eventually it's gonna move

I got rid of Cox and then Uverse because of the price. I don't miss either one of them. I'm on PS Vue ($35/month) and I got an HD antenna for the local channels.

For all you cord cutters out there, what internet speeds do you have? I play PS4 and stream videos here and there, but wondered if there's a cutoff to necessary speed for uninterrupted streaming?
