Something smaller with more sidewall will be a much nicer ride and less thrashy.
The vehicle and details would help. I have 20's on a Ram 1500 there is abundant sidewall, they ride fine. I also have 20's in a Mazda CX-50, you almost feel every pebble on the road and every bump is obvious. That vehicle would be better suited with 18's.

30 years ago a large rim was 16”. Sizes have increased but OEMs still concerned about the mass targets. Larger and lighter wheels may not ride as well depending on design and the resonant frequency. Hit a pothole or something and wheel can act like a tuning fork if frequency is too low. Suspension, tire size etc can dampen that but larger wheels tend to be not as forgiving as smaller.

I had 22s on a previous vehicle owned. I now have 20s. The ride is Lightyear’s better on the 20s. That’s all I have for you.
