I have friends from the greenville and cleveland area and they all say it sucks and they don’t want to go back ever but i would still be interested in taking the MS Blues Trail one day through those areas. Esp go to the crossroads. We have a Doe’s in Ridgeland and at one point there was one in BR.

If you will have a lot of free time alone, bring Rising Tide by John Berry to read.

All of those places you listed are closed now. Except for Ciceros and lillos in leland.

There is Vittos in leland, they have the best salads and pizza!

Even poor sonic in leland is barely hanging on. So sad.

ETA: fratessi's is still open. ;)

That must have been a long time ago?

Where was the mattress factory and what was it? Don't be in Greenville north of McDonald's on hwy 1 past dark, and be watchful at all times.

Clarksdale is worse. Cleveland is really a great little oasis.

However it seems no where is safe anymore.

If anyone is familiar with Cleveland, there have been a couple of drive-by shooting in the neighborhood across from Margaret Green. 1st Avenue and those streets. I lived there when I was in college. Cleveland doesn't report all the crimes for fear of losing students.

The owners of this fratessi's are brothers, Mark and I can't remember the other one's name.

Here's a link to their store. Best lunches and sandwiches around!

I’ve been to the Does in Baton Rouge. I like the Does in Baton Rouge. That said, it’s not at all the same thing as the one in Greenville. That’s not so much saying the one in Greenville is many of orders magnitude better (though, I think it is in many respects). It’s just a completely different experience all together.

nearest still-operating Pasquale's Pizza

So many good Pasquale's memories. There was a Pasquale's next door to the T-Willies Frostop on South State Street in Jackson, MS - my first real job, (After my professional Popcorn Popping days at Skyview Drive in Theatre. There was also a Pasquale's in Clinton a few years after we moved there in 1961.

You may know there still is a Pasquale's in Laurel, Mississippi. I think there may be a new one in Meridian now, or at least that is what I heard before Covid killed the Mom and Pop food business.

The Pasquale's Stromboli Steak Sandwich and a Sprite with my honey was a special thing back in the day.

I spent some time in Clinton as a kid in the '70s -- it must have closed by the time I got there. I remember the ones on...Ellis? Meadowbrook? Wasn't there another one... the name Maywood Mart ring a bell?

I've heard conflicting things about Laurel -- it's closed, it's re-opened... But I actually would like to go to Pasquale's again. Maybe I can also find a Miller's or Howard Brothers still open.

Drive up to Clarksdale one night and take in the Ground Zero Blues Club (Morgan Freeman co owns the place with a white dude). Good bar food and great music there. Look at their web site to see who is playing. Sat two tables over from Morgan Freeman one night and graciously left him alone. Drive over past Parchman Farm (State Prison) and realize how lucky you are to not be incarcerated there. Jim Henson Muppet museum is in Leland - his home town. If she had a flat bottom boat, go frog gigging on Deer Creek one night. Surely you know how to gig frogs? All good Louisiana boys know this skill, so I'm not sure why I asked. Please forgive.

BB King Museum in Indianola. Grammy Museum at Delta State in Cleveland - Home of the Fighting Okra. Go to the bookstore and get a Fighting Okra t-shirt.

Tamale festival in Greenville. Unsure of dates. Catfish festival in Belzoni. Unsure of dates.
