The PrO is off road ready out the box and more capable than the GX. The catch is the new GX is going to be done and the interior should catch up. The v8 is nice but actually the PRO is more off-road suited, which seems to be your appeal.

All that being said, I would go GX Bc you can’t swap out the engine but can always upgrade the suspension and tires to get on the PRO level with a better interior.

Better have your pennies saved up either way

That's my concern. When I thought about getting an SUV, I realized that its hard to find one that doesn't look like a lady-truck.

It's crazy to me that people actually give a shite about this.

Its crazy to you that a man who wants to drive a truck prefers a truck that looks like a truck?

I've driven my Tacoma for 10 years now and I've pretty much decided my next vehicle will be a 4Runner

I find myself needing a covered back more than I need a truck bed these days

If I need to haul lumber, I can always get a top rack

I'll probably end up just getting a camper shell for my taco and extend its life for another 10 years though

Does the GX have any more headroom than the 4Runner?

The 4Runner - specifically the TRD Pro - interests me.

Without reading any of the other replies you should keep in mind that when you buy a TRD Pro you're paying extra, usually around $10k more, for a special color, a very small lift/different shocks, and the black wheels. The TRD Off Road Premium package offers everything the TRD Pro models do in offroad gadgets, you just can't get the crazy colors.

I'd definitely wait, car prices are insane and 4Runners may be the worst of them. My wife drives a 2019 TRD ORP, we love it, and in a few years I'll probably start driving it and buy her something else. Out of curiousity I ran it though Carvana and Vroom a few weeks ago and was offered $4000 more than we paid for it 2 years ago.

I have a 2004. Some parts starting to age out, but otherwise, I've only had 1 repair that cost over $500. They may not cater to testosterone but the frickers are reliable and will last forever. Dont have the utility of a pickup but are more versatile than many think.

Why not get a bed cover?

How do you like your Tacoma. Not looking anytime soon but they seem to be pretty good.

No issues. Will last you forever and resale value is ridiculous. You just have to deal with the lack of bells and whistles (like every Toyota outside of the upcoming 2022 Tundra)

What lift did you get? I just bough a 460 and want to put some 33s and an ironman bumper on it

I went with the dobinson kit, but there are plenty of good ones. OME, etc. Check out GXOR on facebook or ih8mud.

Last forever. Look good.

Shitty mileage and drives like a box on wheels.

Interior looks dated

I'd recommend the shell. My cargo area is pretty dirty from home depot trips and hauling the dog around. Even with the Weathertech mat it still gets scratches and what not back there.

Yes, I think it's crazy people assign genders to the looks of a vehicle and base their decision on purchasing a vehicle based on that assignment, or by who they assume the sex of a majority of drivers of that vehicle. I get that most SUVs on the road today aren't used for sport or utility and are carpooling grocery getters, but if they check all your other boxes, just seems silly to eliminate because women drive it to pick up the kids from school, or because it doesn't look manly enough.

They're fricking awesome.

I haven't owned one but I know they're always in my scope. I drive a 15' jeep, but still own my 05' xterra offroad model and i love it too.

I think the 4Runner is at the top of the SUV game for people that have active lifestyles and want to do shite without breaking the bank on the purchase or repairs.

Huge Toyota peeve of mine...

In both the Tundra AND the Tacoma you can get the TRD Pro colors in the lowly SR5 packages, but in the 4Runner like they're only available in the TRD Pro lineup. When we shopped for my wife's 4Runner I was hoping to find a Quicksand or Cement TRDPro used and those bastards were still $5k more than we bought our TRDORP for.
