We have one right now. He is almost 3. He is the absolute sweetest dog ever. They are the epitome of lap dog. Want to be loved on constantly. And the softest coat of any dog I've ever felt. They shed like a motherfricker though. I wasn't ready for that. It kind of sucks.

They’re called love sponges for a reason. Every one I’ve been around loves people and have great dispositions. Wonderful dogs.

If I wasn’t a Sheltie person, I could see us having a CKCS or two.

Two friends of mine each got a King Charles from the same litter. One of them fell over dead at the age of two years from a heart attack. The other one is now around 15 years old. He’s blind, can’t get around like he used to but he’s a good dog. The other one was too but one day he was doing normal dog things, the next morning he keeled over.

Shedding. I always get mine shaved in summer. Helps a lot and they love being cooler .

The snoring . Many short snout dogs such as Cavaliers, Frenchies, and bulldogs have an extended soft palate that partially blocks the airway. For $300 or so, the vet can trim it, has to put the dog under, and then you can hear an almost immediate improvement. Got it for a Frenchie I had and it was night and day.

My current one? She is anything but a lap dog. Oh, she will sit next to me while I watch tv or lay by me on the bed all day. However, her nickname is The Tornado. Never had a dog more rambunctious than her and I suspect I've done a lousy job of training her.

My grandfather's brother had one. He was very hyper but friendly and very loyal to the family.

Our 2.5 yr old King Charles...

Were in our early 70's and one of the best natured, loving dogs we've ever owned. Perfect for older people and errybody loves him...

Currently own 3 and had a 4th but as many have mentioned heart deficiency killed him at 5 years old. Great family dogs. The oldest is 12 and she loves everyone she meets and the 2 others are 7 years old . The 12 year old weighs like 15 pounds but snores like a 300 pound human male. They are all the red color refer to them as the gingers.

Rescued 2, a one year old most recently. He is very active with the other dogs but is completely chill when we are relaxed. Great around the kids and others as well.

Our first did have CHF, and we prolonged her life with meds (Pimobendan, Lasix, and an ACEI). She lived to be about 14yo. Wife absolutely loves them. Definitely recommend!

How are you guys finding these as rescues? I’m in a rural area, but I’ve never seen one for rescue at any shelter.

My cousin fosters them for a rescue. Just like the other poster stated;
“ Typically very good with kids and people in general. Often live life as a
couch potato. Are predisposed to several medical problems. Wonderful family pets in most cases.

You might consider a mini-schnauzer. I have had 5 in my lifetime and absolutely loved each one. Non-shedding. No medical issues with any of mine. Largest I had was Julius, 20 lbs. Bubba was the smallest at 11 lbs. They were the most adaptable dog I have ever been around. Whether it was a trip to town, yard work, 5 mile walks they were up for whatever I had going on. When I had surgery and couldn’t move much at all, they were right there with me for hours. Love to ride atvs and wheel barrows. Very smart and never were a problem training.

Never had a Cavalier, but I've owned 3 Cocker Spaniels and have known 2 other Cockers very well. Make sure you stay on top of their ears because they are prone to ear infections, but preventative maintenance goes a long way. Spaniels are the best.

Yup. I've had five and rescued 17 of them.

These are very expensive breeds. How does one come to "rescue" one, or 17 of them? Honest question.

If I’m going to have a spaniel it’s going to be a Boykin.

We have two- 13 y/o and 5 y/o. Great lap dogs, friendly and chill. Opposite of hyper. Highly recommend. Only drawback is shedding- you will be vacuuming lots of hair.

I’d recommend buying from reputable dealers that test for heart issues. It will not be cheap and expect to sign a contract.

We’ve had ours now going on 11 years. As someone said he does have a heart murmur. They found it when he was 10. He’s an amazing dog. LOVES kids and they adapt to their owners well. Older less active people they are content to just hang out. Younger more active they are right there with you. However lol their big brown eyes can make you feel sorry for them as you can see mine pouting because I didn’t give him a bone yet that evening. They really are fantastic dogs, highly intelligent and they will let you know what they think one way or another. In a good way. When ours needs to go outside he goes to the back yard door and stares at it. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dog. I swore after our 17 year old American Eskimo passed away id never risk getting attached to another animal. I’m glad my wife talked me into it. He’s truly great. As far as hair goes we have ours groomed once a month and we have a roomba run every other day. No issues but we have wood floors throughout the entire house. We literally put these in when we built just for him to avoid carpet/dog issues.

Edit: They were bred to hate squirrels. I have a bird feeder set up mostly for him. He’s never come close to catching one, but he’s on a never ending mission to eradicate squirrels from the yard

you’d be shocked how many people get a dog then the new wears off and they have buyers remorse. That or they develop a health issue and people dump them. Ours is like family. So much so my middle son transferred back home from college because he missed him after 2 years out of state. I wouldn’t even think of giving him up for anything.

There is a Cavalier King Charles Rescue Trust who takes them in. You should be able to Google their info and contact them about a rescue.

My wife and I love the breed and have been wanting one. Where can I rescue one from?
