Me!! Lately I’m lucky if I’m asleep by 3:00 am. Stupid menopause.

Reading a book always helps me.

Read the whole thread. Interesting responses. Yes as you get older it gets worse. 10 years ago I got test for apnea. I HATE THAT CPAP machine but I get good sleep with it. I will fight you if you try to take it from me. Have a DRs appt tmrw. Go 2 times per year bc they give those meds out. I've had Ambien, Lunesta, and Clonazapam (Klonipin). Ambien works well. Lunesta works well but makes milk taste weird (heard other people say same thing), so now on Clonazapam. Small dose but I hear it causes early Alzheimer. Scary but I want to sleep. I get 8 hours of sleep or more if I want to. Just lately I been having some issues waking up. Last couple months. Usually can get back to sleep right away now. Years ago it would take me an hour or more to go to sleep unless I was exhausted. Mild apnea was the cause. Stress can be a big factor.

Take ashwaganda and skullcap before bed.
They’re both natural and can be found on amazon.

Yes, for me the insane sleep paterns began around age 40. In my case the problem was in my my head. The body wants to go to sleep but the mind won't turn off. The Buddhist refer to this as the "Voice in the Head" that won't shut up.Lol. It's human nature to seek out the "quick fix" to the immediate problem instead of discovering the root cause. So, a number of cocktails, smoke a bowl or two, pop a gummie or a handful of pills is a quick solution. My go to quick fix is a bunch of cocktails. Tried to be healthier and smoke a bowl or pop a gummie but I just end up naked in the pantry eating a whole Costco roast chicken stuffed with Lucky Charms. The root cause for me was lack of exercise. Every day that I get in some vigorous excecise, I hike the ponds behind the house or just a good 2.5 mile hike through the neighborhood and I sleep like a baby for 7-8 hours. Exercise stills the mind and the body.

We have the pod 4, just the mattress topper. I sleep really hot, this thing cools down really well, uncomfortably cold in my opinion if you crank it down. It’s expensive but has been life changing, I sleep much better when it’s cooler.

Midnight Thunderstorm, recorded in New Orleans, LA. Only problem it knocks me out so bad I have a hard time waking up. It's on Amazon Prime.

Trazadone is a good choice. Safe, and safer for the brain than benzos, and Ambien and Lunesta. It can even rarely cause priapism (very, very rarely, don't fret.) Glad it works for you.

Some nights I sleep great. Some not so great.
I hate being dependent on medication, but if I really need sleep I’ll take a Benadryl about 15 minutes before bed.

I've had insomnia my entire life. Four or five hours a night is all the sleep I usually get.

Sorry to hear it. I think you're wise to stay away from Melatonin. It is a powerful hormone, and you don't want to screw up your sleep cycle with Melatonin. I think Mag glycinate is a good choice, and they say most of us, Americans, are lacking in it, so you're almost certainly safe taking it. Someone asked you to consider the timing of your workouts. As knowing helper mentioned, early morning workouts are best. Also, as others have mentioned, caffeine can have a really long half-life, as it can vary widely from one individual to another. You want your room to be very dark and very cool. I think they recommend like 69 for best sleep. The old, Don't do anything in bed, but sleep, and one other thing that a lot of people do in bed besides read and watch TV, and social media, internet. That way, you train your system that when you are in bed, it's time time sleep. Try your best to get 6, at the very least for brain healing and restoration.

For years I’d wake up 4 or 5 times a night. Doctor put me on 150mg of Trazadone and I wake up maybe once or twice but that’s after at least 5 or 6 hours of sleep.

I have success with Blackscreen Thunderstorms on YouTube.
Very calming, no flashing images, and excellent background noise for ten hours.

Yes, right now . I have to get up early to travel tomorrow and have been tossing for over 2 hours. Frustrating.

You arent alone. My body has gotten used to running well on just 2-3 bad hours of sleep than if I slept 6-7 hours I would feel tired.

feel like I get tiny shots adrenaline while I’m trying to sleep that just jolt me back up. "
Talk to your Doc regarding sleep apnea . This "jolt" you describe with wake up is concerning.

I get the jolts too. It's probably PTSD or some shite in his life that he hasn't gotten over with.
One time I fell off the bed and high crawled into the living room for cover. I don't know what I was covering from but I felt like someone was in the room and I needed to seek cover.
Another time I jumped off the bed and picked up my small coffee table to "defend" myself. I lifted it so quickly and so fast that I popped myself in the nose with it. Then I went back to sleep forgetting all about it and when I woke up and looked int he mirror I got super concerned seeing a little blood in my nostril, and after remembering my midnight nighscare shenanigans I realized it was nothing.
