From my own experiences, I've found that most police officers despise corrupt or dirty cops than average criminals. I'd much rather see 1 dirty cop caught than 100 "normal" criminals.

What are you searching on the internet when you are just parked somewhere supposedly "watching traffic"?
Tigerdroppings or other sport boards/websites. But only boring cops run stationary traffic baw

100% agree. 1 dirty cop makes my job harder then 100 criminals. Our job is a lot of trust. How can we help people who don't trust us. If citizens think we're dirty then why would they give us information on crime around the community or ask for help.

In Minnesota it's a petty misdemeanor to speed. Not a criminal violation but traffic violation. Some states classify anything over 10mph as serious or criminal speed
Thanks. So in Minnesota, one could exceed the posted speed limit by, say 50 mph and only receive a traffic violation and not expect to receive the cuffs?

Negative. You will receive a reckless driving and if you go over 100 your vehicle will be impounded.

You pull someone over for, say, 70 in a 55.They're very normal looking, don't seem intoxicated. They hand you their license and their ccw.
What's your next move?

Why do cops still walk up to the vehicle instead of making the driver get out? Seems a lot more dangerous to walk up to the vehicle.

Might be true, but do they do anything about it?

Ask them without reaching where is the weapon. If it's on the person ask them to step up. Disarm them and frisk them for other weapons. I would complete the traffic stop with them in my car. I can ask them to step because of mims v Pennsylvania

Not everyone is bad. Honestly I have people come back and sit in the car with me a lot. Plus I like having conversations with people.

I would like to think so. I know sometimes nothing which shouldn't happen. Just like any profession bad people should be ousted

I've seen several that I worked with or knew over the years that ended up in prison and a good bit that were fired for misconduct, some criminal violations but more so ethical issues. That said, I'd say something was done about it.

Are you more suspicious about a stop if a car has bumper stickers?
Probably a stupid question, but always kind of assumed I would be if I were a cop.

Also, where would you set the appropriate blood alcohol level for a DUI if it were up to you (I know it's not)?
Drunk driving is a real issue but the push seems to be to keep lowering the limit. Not sure someone driving at lower limits is really the issue (i.e., not sure lowering the limits really deters those driving while at an amount non of us would condone).

Some yes and some no. If they have stickers indicating drug use I might ask them about it. But usually I try to conduct each stop the same. I ask the same questions.

It depends. Some people function different on different types of BAC. That's a tough question. Reality is if you are a .01 you can still get a DUI. But I would keep it at .08. The .04 push is sort of hard to justify. That's a beer or a glass of wine for some.

What if someone curses you out when they get a ticket from you as you walk back to your vehicle? Shake your head and keep walking or do you say excuse me?

Thanks for response and service.
Keep safe brother.
