• Cost approximately $16M to complete
• 350 feet rebuilt on both sides
• Contractor, CW Mathews, to receive in the neighborhood of $3M for early completion
• I-85 will reopen by no later than rush hour Monday morning.
Government normally fails to meet expectations. In this defining moment their actions are serving to exceed expectations.
Yes, hate to break it to you but ATL > NOLA and I was born raised in NOLA.

Didn't think they needed new foundation and bridge bents. I thought it was just the deck that needed replacement.

CW Matthews was the contractor for this job. They pretty much have a monopoly on the road building in the state of GA. Almost every major project bid on is won by them. There was an incentive of $200k for every day they finish before deadline. I am not sure when that is, but i assume they are about to make quite a bit of $$$

Yeah that is what I was surprised. It makes their progress even more impressive.

Not sure if this has been posted but Atlanta completed the repair of I-85 in roughly 4 weeks
I mean, it's a major artery that has to be reopened for commercial purposes so it automatically gets bumped to the top of the line.
CW Matthews, the company who completed it, is also a jam-up operation. Very good firm.

Over-under 4 years for this to be completed in Louisiana?
It may be 4 years until the I10 on ramp from airline near Sorrento is fixed.
Ramp's been closed since November 2015.

It's been 20 years since they've needed to fix the I-10/I-110 merge point. It will be another 20 before they do anything about it.
And by the time they add another lane to I-10 between the bridge and LA415 or east to College, they'll need to add 2 more.

In Louisiana they would do another study to figure out the best way to do it.
In Louisiana, they would find the most appropriate alternate route, and start working on that one, too, simultaneously.
In Louisiana, the only thing worse than two routes under construction, is one route under construction.

Sure hope they kick a little bonus over to the blue collars who worked on it and got it done.

All the government did is scratch the check and got the hell out of the way, private industry got the work done. Would have taken years for someone in a government agency like the Corp of Engineers to get all of their studies and red tape taken care of before work could have started.

They deserve the money. Traffic has been 10x normal around my neighborhood, basically gridlock for most of the day. Going to the grocery store 1 mile away takes 20 mins. and walking my dogs is extremely annoying with all of the pissed of people cutting through.

2 lanes of the I-10 Twin Span Bridge (connecting New Orleans and Slidell over Lake Pontchartrain) was reopened 45 days after Hurricane Katrina
Remember that was because Canadian Engineers had the knowhow AND Materials and they lived in trailers on site.
And I doubt anyone went normal speed over that bridge. I know I'll never forget the feel of driving over it.

I think it was supposed to be 45mph, but plenty of people went 80+. Hell, I may have even been guilty a time or two.
Disregarding the ATL/NOLA pissing match, it was a remarkable feat either way, as was this I-85 deal.

Boh Bros was the contractor on getting the Twin Spans back up and running
and yeah... driving over that thing until the new 1 was finished was like trying to drive on a trampoline
