Everywhere I've looked they want you to have all your certs. I've been out since 2016 but would like to go back into deep water.

All of our clients were banks for the company I worked for at the time. They were folding or canceling contracts right and left. I think we lost 40-50% of our employees during that recession. I guess I'd been there roughly 5-6 years by 2008.
The only thing that saved my job and many others was a lot of our revenue at the time came from city/state governments who were our main clients. That went in the toilet with the 2008 mortgage crisis. About a year earlier though the company was bought out by a major Defense Company from the UK. They had deep pockets and kept the manufactoring plant running for a few years to get us thru the next few years. We still lost about 40% of our employees but eventually they ended up selling us because we didnt make them enough money but by then that had opened my eyes to what could happen if the economy tanked again. I left a few years later for a job in the medical industry because i knew if times got tough the Federal Goverment isnt running out of money and a lot of our funding comes from them for research, medicare etc...

I blame millenials for the lack of company loyalty these days. If y’all would stay on for 40 years like boomers y’all would be family but instead y’all jump from job to job every couple years so how can y’all blame the company?
I think when companies got away from pensions people started job hopping.
The worst are large publicly traded companies. They don’t give a frick about their employees- it’s all about quarterly earnings and a little diversity bullshite thrown in for good measure.

I left for a completely different industry in 2012 as well.

You and your brother could both pass away and 100% of your employees would be SOL also so take that into account too.
thanks for your concern though

It seems like he might ask his employees to kill people

it means that when we need all hands on deck for extended periods of time we get it. It also means that when others come calling for them they say no

Got laid off twice.
Once in 06 when my wife was prego for our first child.
Second was 2020 right before the covid freak out.
And to top it off I was 3 interviews deep in a better job and covid shut it down as they froze all new hiring.
Job security is something lots of folks take for granted.

I may be needing a new career myself soon, but I don't want to work 18 hours away from home when I'm trying to knock my wife up.

It’s been one year since I got cut. Was there for almost 14 years. We got a new manager in our department about 2 years prior and when the cuts came it seemed as if all of us that he didn’t hire got let go.
Been with a new company for about 5 months now and they sent an email 3 weeks ago and said 2000 people will be let go by end of March. Global company so it could be from anywhere. I’m puckering a little but nothing I can do to stop it.
Just keep resume updated and looking out for something new if needed.
