It's a bacterial sample, not a virus. Herd immunity doesn't work the same and I think may only be theoretical with bacteria

Sure there is. Study the genome and figure out a response. Not only will this help us if/when we encounter a similar strain naturally, but it may also give us an alternative to antibiotics, which we desperately need for regular bacterial infections.
Just because this specific sample was found in ice doesn't mean (1) that we won't encounter similar bacteria elsewhere, with all of our drilling, exploring, excavating, etc or (2) that similar frozen bacteria won't be released via ice melting from climate change
