Are you a typical Louisiana resident that just thinks of Texas as Houston and Dallas?
Go one hour and a half or so west of Austin or one hour or so NW of San Antonio, way less humidity and totally different climate than SE Texas and North TX.
The Texas hill country is absolutely beautiful.
My sister lives in Austin. Yeah it's hilly and less humid but still hot af.
The weather in the populated parts of Texas sucks too.

The weather in McAllen is awesome!! It’s like 110° everyday with static heat (no breeze off the gulf like Brownsville)

High crime
Nonexistent parks and rec
Trash and unmown public areas
Nothing to do outside of drinking and eating
Insane home prices in decent areas
Shitty weather
Bad roads
It’s a real treat alright

It's one of the things I dislike the most about S LA. I'd never trade 96 degree summer days for 94 with slightly less humidity. They both suck

I love rural areas but you are essentially referring to places where there are no jobs. Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas all have shitty climates imo.

For certain, you’ll feel a lot better once you get out of Baton Rouge. Remote jobs are abundant, many without having requirements of being in close proximity to a Corporate office.
Even though I don’t believe in my cities political scene, and policing, I would be hard pressed to ever move back to BR. It would be equivalent to taking 20 steps backwards, in terms of career trajectory as a software engineer.

I have a job interview with a large defense contractor tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Wasn't even really looking.

Dude. It’s not 2008.
Working from where you actually want to live is the way it’s going to be going forward.

I'm not sure about this being permanent but I do think it will be more common moving forward

Even homes in remote/rural areas of Hill Country and just outside of ATX and SA are expensive AF though. It's not a very fair comparison to BR suburbs.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana's state capital, is the nation's fifth deadliest city. It saw 35.1 homicide deaths per 100,000 residents in 2018, which is 10 places higher than Chicago's murder rate.

The mayor of EBR is a Democrat and so is the governor of the state.
I’m having a hard time trying to understand your post.

Pay isn't great but a lot of job security for me since the uneducated population in BR is so high.
No way I would raise a family here unless i had the means to pay for private school.

stop lying to yourself
Baton Rouge is an absolute dumpster fire right now and there is no hope in sight. no light at the end of the tunnel.
would love to be hopeful for a once nice city, but the vast majority of the citizens in Baton Rouge are pure trash. that's the problem ... not infrastructure, not education... it's the FACT that most citizens in Baton Rouge are PURE TRASH!
half of these brain dead, morally bankrupt, illiterate, non-child-support-paying, hip-hop-loving losers would gladly continue to vote for the same imbecilic policies that put Baton Rouge in the trash can to begin with.

Stopped at the Walmart yesterday for a resupply on my way back to BR. Is there a minimum weight to live there? Never seen so many cankles in my life.
The eunice walmart makes me glad that I look the way I do on a daily basis.

I will always love this city. Born here, grew up in St. Amant, live here now. I've lived ALOT of places excepting the north. Baton Rouge is an Up/Down City. Population growth makes it this way. Why do so many natives who hate it here move back? Nobody comes outside anymore either. I remember when everybody rode around with their windows down. Now its like the life and times of people you meet at Walmart. I will say this, Baton Rouge has been a hold out. Malls are the litmus test. So many US cities have lost them much earlier than us. Area economies declined earlier. Killing Cortana was hard for me until I realized the corpse was finally getting buried. Downtown/Riverfront needs a HUGE revamp. Better than Catfish Town was ;]
I liked it better when 3rd street was abandoned. Does everything have to be so spread out? My advice to the negatives is to change your route. Where you go and how you get there. Traffic sucks everywhere, but detours abound here. Highland rd. on a sunny day vs. flooding/ LSU vs. LSU/ no snow vs. hothumid etc. I choose love it rather than leave it.

Can you please name a lot nicer places?
90% of Texas
90% of Florida
85% of Arkansas
90% of Arizona
100% of Utah
80% of Colorado
And that’s just if you’re looking to get away from city life. If you want to live in a city, those percentages increase.
