re: Baton Rouge power outage

For those defending entergy, please explain this.
I called yesterday to get an update on the expected restoration timeline for my area (N.Stumberg). I was informed that 80% of EBR would have power by 9/8. I asked how would I know if I was in the remaining 20% so I could make the decision to go and stay with family. The reply was "sorry we don't have that information".
Again, like others have said, entergy management is freaking clueless and I absolutely wish the worst for them. It's the same across all large corporations, upper management is out of touch with reality. When data finally reaches them, it's been filtered and skewed by middle management.
Fortunately a neighbor talked to one of the lineman and he said that the main feeder should be up by Saturday afternoon. frick entergy management and the POS spokesperson, they can all rot in hell for an eternity.

The transmission line for JT is broken. The transmission line from the substation is a one way line meaning they can't switch JT to another line. Only line in BR like that...meaning until the transmission line is fully fixed JT is SOL
Thanks for the info. Only real information I’ve received as to why we are still out.
Do we know what line it is that is down?

Except us poor JT people
Yeah, this sucks. I would think our neighborhood is big enough that they would be working to get us up pretty quick. Between this and flooding a few months back…it’s pretty exhausting.
But, we will survive.

Bro take a chill pill.
Management in all companies works with large data sets and cannot be concerned with the individual circumstances. Your neighbor took the correct approach and got information from person that is supposed to be dealing with individual circumstances.

I was TERRIFIED I was going to flood again, but figured power would be back by now. Sunday morning with just normal rain water was pouring off Jefferson so clearly our drains are complete clogged with no effort to fix since May. I really hope they are overestimating but this summer has made me hate where I live.

Most of the people I've encountered aren't smart enough to realize that criticism of the shite company that is Entergy isn't an attack or criticism of the linemen working to restore power.
Also the ones that are telling people to relax also have power currently.

The person bitching most in this thread has power.

Look towards Sherwood on Cal down the creek line , there are downed trees they need to clean out ASAP so y’all don’t have issues

How am I talking in circles? My point is they won't be satisfying people with updates. Look at the other thread. YOU specifically asked for "large area" updates and they give them and you're still mad.
You aren't even keeping up.
Estimates of when the city 100% will be up are worthless.
When you look at an area like Shenandoah / White Oak etc. that are all impacted by the same major issue, you should communicate that and let people know what you are up against. You can give expectations of what the impact of said fix are, and you can update them when the fix occurs and let them know what was found as a result.
quote:
I see you ignored my next sentence... where even that won't tell them when power will be restored. There are too many variables.
We know this is wrong. We know people are talking to linesman who are able to give updates. We know people who just know a little about the process are able to give reasonable updates.
quote:
Just because things are "expected" doesn't mean the timeline is the same. There's more than just "line damage" or "transformer damage." You keep simplifying things. I get that you need to do that for your argument, but you are obviously ignorant to the power industry. Don't be simple.
I never said "line damage" or "transformer damage". You are inventing that. Of course I am ignorant on the power industry. But, I'm an expert on process optimization and data management. I know without seeing this what the problem is. Anyone who has ever been involved in large teams and or management knows this is is a failure of management and systems.
You keep saying it's too hard to gather all of the info and report. That's why people create systems. Entergy is failing because it is operating based on the direction of a number (don't know how many) of smart people who are making decisions based on their experience. And, they are failing to communicate because they are overwhelmed. It is absolutely a failure.
quote:
Yet they give a "large area" update and you're still upset...
You are trying to redefine "large area". I'm talking about areas within a city that are affected by a major point of failure.
But, I swear your comments reflect the communication of Entergy. They also seem to have the same fundamental misunderstanding of what status updates are meaningful.
quote:
Nope. I'm in IT.
It's crazy to me that you are in IT and don't have an understanding of the things we are discussing.
quote:
Money is an obstacle fwiw. A company this highly regulated can't just outsource 100s of personnel without there being a way to recoup that cost.
Simple arithmetic suggests you are wrong. And, it wouldn't take 100s of people. But, you probably know that.
This is something that should probably be an arm of the marketing department that has technical people on staff that can receive all of the internal engineering updates and planning and can take it and disseminate it to the customers.

My sister in IEJT may kill herself if the power doesn’t come on soon. I can see how all of those trees can wreck a power system.

i really wish that were true
i'm living in my office in BR out of ice chests and out of my truck, and it will be many many weeks before i can go home (hammond).
no amount of bitching, whining or complaining on the internet by me (or you) is going to change anything about that, or about anyone else's situation

I didn’t realize you were a Hammond baw

I really would like to know where moneyg would want to put in these extra workers to relay information to specific neighborhoods. Are they standing over the switching operators? Shadowing the managers? Staring at PI screens? Scanning emails?
Presumably there would be a system involving work orders, and dispatching that helps collect some of this info. Maybe? Possibly?
You are saying EXACTLY what I said the problem is. They are working their arse off. But, they are operating manually with an undefined process, and very poor data management. To put it another way, they are operating the way a company like Entergy would have operated 20 years ago.

Don't worry. There have been focus groups and surveys that show you are happier by not knowing.

The truth is the truth. A lot of times, the answer is "...best case is 24 hours, worst case is 72 hours."

Holy shite is it possible you two can take this elsewhere?
