I have one of these in my house:

I'm a water snob and hate the chlorine taste, so I like my filtered water. Plus it's awesome to have the chilled/hot option.

I always notice that when I travel the water always seems different. You ever take a shower in a different state and it feels weird... like the water is almost sticky? I'm guessing it's hard water???

Yes, your friends are stupid. I had to study the Baton Rouge (and Chicot) aquifer in grad school for a terrible hydrogeological project and it is in fact one of the best aquifers in the country. Unfortunately it is in the beginning stages of salt water intrusions, but there are remediation tactics that can prevent it from happening over time that I think are currently being implemented.

However, New Orleans water comes from the Mississippi River. It is terrible.

It's a pain when trying to take showers though, feels like you can't get the soap/shampoo off no matter how long you rinse.

It smells like matches to me.
I guess I'm just a peasant based off what everyone is saying in the thread.

As others have said, Baton Rouge is consistently ranked in the top ten municipal water sources in the country and pulls its water from naturally filtered and softened aquifers thousands of feet below the surface. Basically all they have to do when it comes up is hit it with a little chlorine and pump it out.

Your friends are fricking idiots. Because they're your friends, you're an idiot. The company you keep...

Baton Rouge literally has some of the best (if not the best) water in the entire country. Your friends are dumb. The aquifer that BR pulls from contains some of the best water you can find naturally.

Wut?

What's my fault? That I have occasional philosophical disagreements with people whose company I enjoy?

Chlorine is a gas. Set your tap water in an open container for 1-3 days to allow the chlorination to escape. Presto, de-chlorinated water. (helpful hint to people with aquariums, no need to buy chemical de-chlorinators)

Wow. I wouldn't have dreamed it was that old. I figured a couple hundred years at most.
