Also, the Pizza Hut, Sonic, and Subway on 73 appear to close at like 7p any random day of the week for no reason.
Those MFers were short-staffed BEFORE Covid. Sonic would always be closed before their listed time in 2019. Worse now.

My only complaints about P'ville are that they built too many neighborhoods on rural 2 lane highways, traffic and all of the damn roads being referred to by numbers. I don't know where any of that shite is

Oh there's legit complaints but fricking chain restaurants ain't one.
Part of the reason I quit delivering pizzas out here in 2016 was b/c it became absurdly unprofitable to drive out there(lived in Southdowns area at the time) and fight traffic for a 5-9pm shift. There were times I only made two deliveries by 7pm b/c of traffic on 42. I also ruined some struts on 73 when they unexpectedly UNPAVED that MFer b/c of some mistake or some shite.
It was completely paved going south from 61 one day and the next it was all rocks and bumpy again. I hit a few potholes going 50mph before realizing what happened.
TLDR Traffic is a big ole donkey dick in the Northern part of AP for sure.

One good thing about the area is that it is hard to overstate the quality of the schools relative to the rest of the state.
Dutchtown is the largest school in the state and it grades an A+. The feeder schools such as Bluff, Oak Grove, Prairieville, Dutchtown and Spanish Lake all have excellent reputations.
Another interesting thing about the area is that there seems to be a reasonable size diverse middle class. My sister lives in a nice neighborhood off of Bluff Rd. and her immediate neighbors are Chinese, black, white, Filipino, Indian (curry, not casino) and Hispanic. It's like a bad sitcom.

That's about right. My oldest graduated in 2021 and my son's a senior.
Dutchtown is an amazing school. The overall stats on DTHS won't show this but the kids in the top 10% of each class are on par with the best students of the magnet programs around the state.
People don't think about this until they're here. But all the plants and refineries around here are full of engineers, process control and computer science nerds, and MBAs. These professionals are recruited from around the world, not just Louisiana.
Most of their kids go to DTHS and take every AP and Dual Enrollment course they can(The demand fosters supply)
Then add the children of the blue-ish collar(they make a shite ton of $$) hard working hourly folks at these same plants and refineries and you have a damned fine group of kids in every class that make you proud of the next generation.

Nothing says home like the noon test alarms at the plants every Monday.

It used to be great until the concrete walkers took over
Posted on 8/20/22 at 8:35 pm to DTRooster
I haven't thought about the Concrete Man at Manchac Acres and Hwy 42 in forever.
I wonder if anyone has a picture of that.

Sounds similar to the Lake Charles area schools like Barbe, Sam Houston, and Sulphur. The really smart kids take AP English, calculus, etc in HS.
A decent proxy for the quality of a school is probably their baseball team’s state ranking.
