Just got an email from Centerpoint saying my power is restored. I'm in Rice Military off of Washington.

They seem to be making decent progress today. We have a crew working their way down Rosalyn right now. Hoping they get us back up tonight or early tomorrow.

I’ve heard stories of power going on and off today. Co-worker in Cypress had power through the storm only for it to go out after the storm passed.
My sister (no pics) and BIL in Lawndale/Wayside got power back around 1 this afternoon and as of 2:30 it’s off again

That’s what you get for living inside of Houston proper. The city itself isn’t as bad as others but suburbia offers the best of both worlds.

A hurricane went thru Houston 24 hours ago and people are crying because they don’t have power?
maybe us Louisianans are just immune to it but get a grip.

Yeah, I don't get why people are complaining about losing power after the storm hit. What did they expect?
Mine just came back on after being down for 27 hours… But I am fully expecting it to go out again.

I’m not complaining. I’m just providing updates for the other locals in the thread

I drove around quite a bit yesterday to let stuff charge/get some ac and didn’t see a single center point truck the whole 1.5 hours.
I guess if a Cat 5 hits Galveston then we can expect Centerpoint to have everyone up and running within 6–12 months.

It’s probably more the uncertainty and lack of communication. Some folks may take two weeks to get power, and if you tell them it will be that long then they can make alternate plans. Centerpoint has not shared any information other than total restored, and that’s not very useful on an individual basis. People are using the Whataburger website, but more detailed information would be better from Centerpoint.

I don't see people complaining about losing power. I see people complaining about the lack of information being distributed by Centerpoint and others.
Reasonable timelines and other information like that would go a long way. Instead, they're getting 'oops, we didn't consider the storm ending sooner and wasted a whole day by not staging resources, our bad!'

Defaults are the issue. They would skyrocket and that's bad for everyone because it'll just get baked into a rate case for the people who do pay.
Whatever happened after the winter storm for those customers who always gambled by paying per the minute/moment spot price rates, and saved money vs those of us who typically locked in, but then ended up with a bill in the thousands after that winter storm?
Were they allowed to get relief, and the rest of us picked up the tab? Genuine question. Because if they got relief because it was “unfair” that THEY chose to gamble, then that’s a big part of the problem.

Houston could do a better job holding Centerpoint's feet to the fire to do regular maintenance and securing power lines from trees, normal wear and tear etc., instead of waiting until an event to happen.
Nah…the elected officials like their campaign donations and free steak dinners.

This here. Entergy has communicated better than CenterPoint, and that’s saying something. Supposedly City of Sugar Land might take CP to court after this, at least that’s what I heard.
I’m hearing Wednesday night for power in our area. Running the generator to preserve food in the fridge and freezer. Might run the portable AC on it some tonight.
