The models really did nail it. The NHC was persistent in putting it into the tx/mex line. It was a hard forecast.

Anyone want to go egg the center point office with me? I got 2 dozen that I’m sure is about to go bad.
That building may still be missing windows from the downtown tornadoes a few weeks back.

Idk if it was just luck or not but the Icon was consistent with the middle upper texas coast

Whatever happened after the winter storm for those customers who always gambled by paying per the minute/moment spot price rates, and saved money vs those of us who typically locked in, but then ended up with a bill in the thousands after that winter storm?
Were they allowed to get relief, and the rest of us picked up the tab? Genuine question. Because if they got relief because it was “unfair” that THEY chose to gamble, then that’s a big part of the problem.
Thats a good question. I'd be curious to hear. My friends that were giving me shite about it for months got real quiet.

So a couple observations. Very little damage overall in the Katy/Cinco area and none that I have seen to transmission lines or power lines at all. Drove to Faulser today and saw one limb on a line.
Other observation. There are zero utility workers in the area. Saw a bucket truck yesterday but they were parked. Amazed at the power outage in this area with the lack of damage. Very frustrating.

In case anyone was wondering, it is still radar season.
IN/IL state line and confirmed at the time. It had to have just missed the radar.

Power finally came back on for us at 3pm. South Katy/North Richmond area off of Bellaire, west of TX-99.
Praying for you guys and gals out there still in the dark!

It’s working its way towards me per KarenBook.
I just did my break service on the generator and it’s still rolling so I don’t have much to complain about until the gas bill shows up.

Just got off the phone with my Sister, and Sienna in Ft Bend still doesn't have power, no phone service,no streaming data, and they've been told to start water restrictions. My other Sister lives in Sugar Land, not 5 miles away, and they've been on since 7AM.

Centerpoint is pretty terrible, but Comcast gives them a run for their money in Houston.
Major outrage in Rice Military and Cottage Grove after being fine through hurricane and this morning.

Apparently CenterPoint didn’t call for and stage workers in or near the area prior to the storm, which is something that I guess usually happens?
If so, I’d be curious to know why.

Yeah, we didn’t get cell service till late this morning. Why the water restrictions?

To be fair Comcast is also dependent on power too.
All of its lines depend on power on the poles.
If there is no power, its equipment may have only a day or so of juice to convert its fiber signals to copper coax.
They then have to deploy portable generators to the poles to power this equipment and depending on the area the generators will even get stolen or have maintenance issues. Sometimes they will have the small ones and position them on top of their boxes on the poles to prevent theft.
Now fiber optic on the other hand depending on how it is deployed is not as dependent on field power and can operate as a passive network meaning as along as you have power at home and the central office has power you connection is still working provided there are no fiber cuts from broken trees or when backyard tree jockeys drop a tree with power and cable lines in the way. Some providers even put springs on the line so if a tree falls or a pole has an issue it will have some give to stop the cable from breaking.
Like I posted during Ida. My office had internet throughout the storm, it wasn’t until after storm that we started having connectivity problems because cables were getting cut as people were clearing trees. And REV had a few generator issues.
These are just a few tidbits I learned after Ida.
