How old is your generator? Is it running 24/7?

I want to install a standby generator but I have to get has run from the road and everything since my house is all electric. Don't want to do all of that and end up with more trouble than it's worth.

Don't buy a Generac. billjamin's experience is certainly not unique.

Generacs are the least reliable but in relative terms they're plenty reliable and dont cost as much as a Kohler. I forget what their failure rate was when I looked into it but it was low enough that when I get one I will definitely still look at Generac if the Kohler cost is too high. It was like 96% reliability or something and Kohler was 98. Something like that. And neutral 3rd party folks were saying Generacs are good units.

Generac popularity makes it easier to find parts too.

We have been moved to energized status. That means the big stuff is done and now we wait for little stuff to be fixed?

Lights flickered a few times here in KW. The other half of my neighborhood has power. Worked night shift and driving ihome this morning through Atascocita I was shocked at the large newer neighborhoods and apts without power. Some big intersections with power some without.

Half of my neighborhood came on yesterday. My half had a 7/17 date. Now it just says energized.

Our power finally came back about 5 PM Saturday. We received an e-mail from CenterPoint just 10 minutes earlier that said our estimated restoration date wasn't going to be until Wednesday.

Great news. That still haven’t even come to pick up the line that’s down on Roslyn here.

This makes 24. In a follow up post they said that they have confirmed 36 tornadoes so far in their CWA with the possibility that the number goes up. They're posting ratings as they get them done.

After the ice storm, my pref was for a Cummins. Would have been fine with a Generac if I had to. Was able to get the Cummins and has worked great.

Cheers to you Owlie. My home is now down to a chilly 75 degrees. The two new AC units I had installed in January doing some work.
