Stopping power is overrated IMO. A home invader isn't going to press on after getting shot, even if it just grazes their ear. Besides, it's not like you don't get to shoot again after hitting them the first time.
I do generally agree with this sentiment. It's one reason I wouldn't mind my wife using the Governor for defense. When someone starts shooting, people typically run. Now, if they're high as a kite...who knows. If they have body armor, you done pissed somebody off and they're likely as good a shot as you or better.

Stopping power when talking about handguns is largely irrelevant because handguns dont have the power to be man stoppers. A lucky shot will do it but generally the perp will still be able to fight back after being shot if he wants to bad enough.
Shotguns and rifles certainly can instantly stop the fight very reliably though. If ol looter dood is hopped on meth when he comes through the window itll take a very lucky shot to incapacitate him with a handgun. With a shotgun or a rifle a solid hit is putting him on the ground nearly every time, meth fueled rage be damned.

Good to know! All I could find were really good reviews, so I was sold. Mind you, that's just practice ammo. One of the big reasons we don't go shoot much with what we already have now is that all my rounds are JHP. Now, we got no reason to not go have a little fun. Glad I came across the stuff.
I think either Academy or Walmart were carrying it years ago. Those were the two places I bought range ammo from. Kind of like you I happened upon it. I would either get WWB or Remington's 250 round box. But I had a couple of jams with the Remington in my XD and quit using it. Buddy I was with tried it in his HK USP and it shot fine so I gave him the rest of the box. Bought a couple boxes of this to try, since they had 180 gr bullets and my XD liked that weight a lot.

What would be worse?
Any of the little .25ACPs from makers like Raven Arms, Jennings, Bryco, etc. is much worse than a Hi Point. My local gun store still sells a lot of those.
I would rather a Hi Point carbine than many of the rust-prone long guns Remington is making right now.
American AK variants are much worse guns than a Hi Point. A Hi Point will not explode in your face. An American "AK" (they're really not AKs) will.
I would even say that, for personal protection, a Hi Point is better than a randomly selected Taurus. If you have a Taurus you know works well, that's probably better than a Hi Point, but so many of them don't work well out of the box.
All that said, if you told me you had $200 and you needed a gun, I would recommend a Heritage revolver in .22 Magnum. That's a much nicer, better-shooting, better-looking gun than a Hi Point. It's just not a 9mm, but I don't care.

My two goto sidearms are a 1911.45 and a Walther PPK/S .380. The “James Bond” gun. Small, but not too small and works well since my AK47 doesn’t fit under my jacket..

One of EACH in your home with reasonably sufficient stock of defense ammo.
Type - Example (ammo)
Semi Auto Pistol - Glock 19/23 (200 + rounds of HP)
Home Defense Shotgun - Mossberg 500 (100 + rounds of buckshot)
Semi Auto Rifle - AR-15 (1000 + rounds)
If you can only have one, I'd have the pistol. (Compact and easy to safely store, cheap range ammo, concealable if need be)
With any of the above, you need to practice at the range. Physically retrieving from safe storage at home.
Physically and mentally practice home defense situations.

Don't spend too much money on it, cuz if you have to use it against a commie. You probably won't get it back from the evidence locker either.

10mm buffalo bore 185 grain is as comfortable as you're going to get in a pistol and still be a man stopper.
And it ain't that comfortable

I have three handguns (2-9MM & 1-38 Special) with about 100+ rounds of JHP for each caliber. I also have a sawed off 20 Gauge shotgun with about 20 buckshot and 40 #4 shot. I could not find any buckshot, so I got the #4 shot.
The handguns are readily available in case I need them. The shotgun is not right now.

Unfortunately, I lost all mine in a boating accident.

Let’s be clear ... there is a reason the military has carried a high capacity small caliber repeating rifle for over 70 years
Your answer is an M-16 III but since you can’t acquire one legally an AR 10 or AR 15 is your best option
.223 or 5.56 are the most common rounds
Add a red dot laser for targeting and some ear plugs , that bitch is loud

Looked at both the SW Governor and the Judge.
The Governor is clearly the better made gun.

Start with a 99mm S&W M&P
Then get a S&W pump. 12 gauge.
Or A S&W MP15
And keep a good knife on you as well.
