What about Poupart’s Traditional king cake?
I thought about including this one. This is a truly traditional king cake, and theirs is very good but I havent hash one of theirs in a very long time. I could easily see why someone would pick Pouparts as their favorite in Lafayette.

The best king cake in LA is the best king cake on earth

Any cinnamon roll worth eating is made with a sweet brioche dough.
but perhaps my wording should have been clearer because you are correct.

Juli Ann's at the corner of Line and King's Highway makes the best king cake in the state. And I have tried all of the ones in New Orleans when I lived there.

I just had the Dong Phoung and while it was probably a close 2nd, I still think Kellers is better
Dong Phoung is highly overrated. We had one at work last week right next to a Joe’s Cafe Praline king cake and the Joe’s was better hands down

I had one last year that was orgasmic.
Had one this year and was unimpressed. I guess they’re hit or miss.

Zoe’s in Covington. Had a plain and a cherry last week at work. They were both great. Not overly iced or too sweet. The cherry was just a thin layer that added a little extra flavor but you could still taste the pastry.

I feel like dong phoung would be great with more filling. They really cheapskate you on the filling by putting in just a small sliver on the big roll.

Navarre's is always my go to. Their blueberry cream cheese and the Bavarian cream filled are my 2 favorites.
I will say though, I've had 2 cakes from The Cocoa Bean Bakery in Hammond this year that were out of this world good. We got them as soon as they were finished being made and both (cream cheese & plain) surprised me with how good they were.
