Didn’t Lionel Hutz win a suit for him due to him being ejected before he had all he could eat?

That's probably one of the most legit reasons to leave a 1 star review.

You could potentially be saving people from a place that could kill them.

The only reason they wrote the review publicly. The place has strongly favorable reviews.

They weren't going to go back, regardless.

I dunno...just seems like an owner should expect negative reviews to happen and either ignore them or attempt to make it right if feeling the need to respond.

Yeah, owner is being an idiot. I am sure your friend could take this to the local news if they wanted to really stick it to the owner.

It's a shitty thing to do unless the owner knows a review is left to purposely be malicious. Just respond to negative reviews and show you are working on correcting issues

If this is standard practice will this business:

Anyone with that thin of skin isn't going to make it.

I respond to all legitimate negative reviews I get. We're not perfect. We're at 4.1 stars. shite happens sometimes and you own up to it. I feel like most people can read between the lines and differentiate legit reviews and petty reviews. A food allergy thing that was explicitly discussed with the staff would definitely be cause for concern for me as a potential customer.

The friend tried to tell other customers not to patronize this establishment. The establishment told other establishments that use square not to serve this customer. Sounds like the system works both ways.

Edit: why would it be a problem for businesses to be able to “review” customers?

And as a business owner. If my staff was ignoring food allergies, I would be pretty upset with them. That sounds like a good way to get sued and have your business shut down.

From the small amount of details it sounds like the business owner is in the wrong. Instead of threatening the customer who wrote that review, if I were the business owner, I'd be up there immediately updating all of my menus with information on what items contain common allergens to avoid this situation in the future. The owner needs to suck it up and learn from the situation. Pushing customers away over an easily fixed error is not the strategy you want to use, especially with all of the covid restrictions in place on restaurants that are limiting their earning potential.

That being said, from my own decade of personal experience in the service industry, about 90% of negative reviews are bullshite and inaccurate. People are much more likely to leave a negative review of a bad experience and embellish what happened, as opposed to leaving a great review for a good experience. This one seems legit though.

A lot of personal information is out there when people do reviews or even call in a complaint. I have your name, email, phone, address, how many times you have called, etc when I get one at work. I won't call in a complaint after seeing that.

I would have addressed it before I left with whomever was in charge at the time. It would have been an opportunity for them to fix it now, rather than go home and be a keyboard warrior.

Legit one star?

I'll do what I can to fix the issue.

Not legit one star?

Those people never come back.

The business owner is a moron. I'll guess they won't be in business too much longer.

i have an allergic reaction to shellfish and i always ask my food to be cooked separately from shellfish when we go out. normally i avoid it, but a) i hate to take it away as an option for people who eat with me b) few times a year i have to go to some conferences and events on Padre Island and seafood is unavoidable.

twice i've had a reaction to them not separating the food, and i've been pretty pissed. i'm not going to leave a negative review or anything , but i'm not going back to a place that said they would make sure and separate it. not to be dramatic, but it can kill you.

Freedom of association and freedom to do business go both ways. Why would he want to go back anyway?

Is it the guy in NOLA who was a liberal and a bunch of folks posted negative reviews about his restaurant? Don’t remember which one and who. He owns a few restaurants there.

This sounds dumb so they responded that the item was mixed in and the customer still ate it?
