You can think of drivers as rounded off penny/venetian/bit loafers/mocs without a true sole or heel. They usually have whatever they call those dot rubber soles or partial rubber soles.
They're great, but they're pretty in style for dudes and the downsides are that they're not really meant to wear all day every day (esp in the hot south) and they have no sole/heel and hence are weird for winter wear.

Same. Only time I wear them with driving loafers though are when I'm flying.

Wear driving shoes to work every day with pants and socks.
With shorts you don't wear socks. Recommend a different pair for that because they will stink after a while in the summer.

If I'm wearing my Cole Haan driving Mocs in the fall or winter (I typically don't) then it's with a pair of socks.
I'm usually in boots when the weather cools off though

Someone more in the know can correct me, but the rubber that runs up the back of the heel so you don't damage the material when you are driving is what I would think determines it.
