Geez. How many country legends are left?
I can think of a few but for how much longer?
Hank JR
George Strait
Willie Nelson

He was 80+. Should’ve stayed inside or worn a mask.
Edit: downvote all you want but if this was any regular dude you would all be saying the same thing. Just because he’s semi-famous doesn’t change the fact that if you’re old you should stay home.

When my daughter was preteen she was on a flight without her mother or me. She had a designated flight attendant escort. When my wife picked her up at the airport she told her that she had sat beside some famous black man during her flight. She said the man was really friendly but he just couldn’t believe she didn’t know who he was. She told her mom it was somebody named Charley Pride. Her mom was pretty floored.
A few months later I was watching some awards show and Charley was on there getting a lifetime achievement or HOF induction so I called my daughter into the room. I asks her if she recognized the man on TV. She said Oh yeah, what’s he doing on TV? Oh nothing, just getting inducted into the HOF, and you didn’t even know who he was.
She never has lived that one down. Lol
Csb. TLDR;cliffs daughter sat beside him and had no idea who he was.

His two sons have folliwed in his footsteps. One is a country artist and opened for his dad before striking out on his own. The other fronts a funk/reggae group. He also has a daughter who stays out of the limelight. Not much info about her.
There's an interesting story about him and Faron Young. TL;DR Young had some racial attitudes that would be unacceptable by today's standards. They met and ultimately became lifelong friends.

My mother's favorite albums on the 45 were Kenny Rogers, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride, Merle Haggard, Elvis, Roy Orbison,Willie Nelson,Don Williams and Dolly Parton.

My Maw Maw (mother's mother) loved Charlie Pride. I am surprised that he was still alive.

Sucks. One of my favorites of country music.
I remember living up in Jackson, MS from 70-73 and hearing Charley Pride on the radio and how people didn't realize he was a black man. They seemed to leave that little tidbit of information out when they talked about him back then.
He possessed one of those unique voices that, like Dolly Parton, could not be mistaken for any other singer.
R.I.P. Mr. Pride

Ronnie Milsap is still around. A couple of years ago my wife and I saw a billboard for one of his shows on I-49. She asked me, "why is there a billboard with Ronnie Milsap on it here?" She was surprised when I told her he was still around and performing.
