Different situation. If your parents can pay for it comfortably, then go for the best school. But don't make your parents take out a second mortgage for you to get degree from only a slightly better school. I am not talking Stanford vs LSU here. I also wouldn't have 100k in undergrad loans considering many people go to graduate school after.

There are good and bad qualities about both. But I don't agree that NOLA is "100 times" better. Marginally better, sure.

Don't they make church mandatory. I went to catholic schools from K-12 and I had enough of that shite.

I never had a single class at LSU with a major sport athlete. Hell, I rarely had classes with a single girl in them. You can find challenging paths through LSU if that's what you're looking for.

LSU med in NO is a very good and respected program.

It probably doesn't seem like such of a "sports" school when you are staring down 18 hours and your chem-E class is kicking your arse. The nice thing is after busting your arse in class, you can walk over to a stadium SEVEN nights a year and forget your worries. Or you could go elsewhere and feel really superior to the "sports school" people who like to get lit up, eat delicious food, celebrate their shared culture, and have a bit of fun with 102,000 of their closest friends, 15,000 of whom are ridiculously hot babes.

I don't know Gaston. I'm Catholic. They would never take me at LC even if I were from the local town.

Hard to go by those rankings.

You want to go into research, yeah they are behind many others.

But if you want to go into practical medicine, they are very good. You get a lot of experience with different diseases and afflictions working in NOLA.

Granted, Charity not being able to be used as a training ground anymore does hurt LSU some.

LSUNO is not a good name med school

Sure they will graduate good doctors

But it's no where near top 50 and isn't doing any significant research or leading the way in any field. All you have to do to see the difference is spend a day at lsu Amd then spend a day at a top medical sxhool. Night and day
There's nothing wrong with that and its not LSUs mission
Lsu mission is to produce doctors who will stay in Louisiana

What NO offers for a college student or recent graduate is exponentially more than what BR offers. Which isn't to say that LSU isn't a blast for college students, but LSU=/= BR. There's a reason LSU students barely ever leave the campus area.

LSU has some great programs and some great faculty, and students who enter LSU with a willingness to work hard and get the most out of their LSU experience can get a great education in most fields of study. I have watched many serious students do great things with their LSU education and go on to be very successful.

I will admit that there are some departments at LSU that are very weak, and unfortunately there are some departments that are not particularly student friendly and willing to work closely with students. I am a strong advocate of close faculty-student interaction and mentoring, and I know from talking with students that there are some departments that do not give their students enough opportunity for that kind of interaction. Even great students will not get much value-added from those departments compared to what they can get from similar departments at other universities.

But with that caveat, for the most part students who want to can get a great educational experience at LSU, and in most fields of study there is no reason to avoid LSU to go to some other university.

I'm glad I went there, but the name brand isn't that great. I was able to land a job in finance but it definitely hadn't done me any favors in entering my profession. To that point, LSU needs to do a better job in getting kids to understand what their options are for employment.

But lol at whatever clown in this thread said A&M would be a better optIon.

In fairness, the kid can't just "decide" that they feel like going to either UT or Rice.

Hopefully they didn't opt for Stanford. That collection of idiot jocks win the Sears Cup every year.
