I don’t know if that is a valid list vs kids just commenting. But unfortunately for Louisiana, top school(s) really mean nothing compared to other states. When my daughter who graduated a top parochial school in NOLA entered LSU, Texas students were way ahead academically at application time due to college courses in HS, etc. Unless something has changed during these years. Even years before, while in Katrina evac. a friend who landed in Texas with her kids for a semester came home saying Texas was so far ahead of us.

Was your daughter not in honors in dual enrollment taking AP classes?
I mean, even a "dumb" school like Rummel has that....

The school didn’t offer those back then. Or very few. But, she was regular track. My friend’s daughter was honors and the offerings were slim. I think it may have changed today, hopefully. Nothing againt the schools, she was well prepared for LSU and went on to get her masters. It is Louisiana education as a whole that seemed (seems) behind the times.

Today you found out your daughter was dumb
My tiny HS didn’t offer AP courses but I still tested out of 18 hours at LSUs spring testing

It doesn’t. I was just surprised we didn’t have those offerings and see parents talking about it so often I felt like we failed.

Which school and how long ago was it?
Most schools jumped on the college prep bandwagon a long time ago - so I’m just surprised. When my mom was in high school in the 60s - there were commercial schools and also college prep. But by the 90s, there were really only college prep left.

I don't remember having AP available either, but I wasn't exactly AP material in high school anyway
I think I graduated with about a 2.5 and didn't even take the college prep courses. Different world though because we didn't have TOPS. I graduated from LSU with a 3.5 though.

Wasn't 1998 the first year? I remember my little sister getting it but I graduated in 1996 and we didn't have it.

We could test out of stuff based on ACT score too
I never took English again after HS. Probably should have

Yep, my GPA had me having to take a few remedial classes but I did pretty decent on the ACT which got me out of them. I just didn't try at all in high school. I took 4 shop classes and English my SR year

I got perfect scores in English and Reading and decided to be an engineer

Dominican. But graduated there in 2015. There may have been a couple courses bc as I said my friend’s daughter was in honors and may have taken an AP course. Or maybe there were more but we didn’t t know bc on standard track. The school did prepare her well. So no knocks on it. My comment was just Louisiana education in general and I always wonder how our best schools stack up against other states.
I think it boils down to the student. I removed my other from catholic school into a different private school late elementary bc the catholic school wasn’t a good fit for her. She learned differently and was a square peg trying to fit into a round hole there. She ended up graduating with honors gpa and graduated with honors at SELU, and went on for a secondary degree, graduating with honors, as well. Folks would laugh at that school I sent her to, but it was tough, had to be there. It reminded me of old school academics like we used to have.

Yeah, I'm glad I did. I've made a pretty good living in IT over the past 24 years.

Yes but they also allowed 1997 to apply prior to their sophomore year in college

Yep, and plenty of kids that excelled at Catholic will go to college and fail out and become losers
This is stupid. If you “excel” at any decent high school, with very few exceptions, as worst you are going to be doing okay 25 or so years out (at least that’s been my actual real world observational experience). Sure, there’s going to be a wasteoid loser here and there for any number of reasons, but it’s not going to be “plenty of kids.” If you think that, you have no real world perspective whatsoever.
