Big fan of the Fuentes mentioned. Maybe my go to would be monticristo #2. If you don't like that you don't like cigars.

Padrón Dámaso. Last I knew, this was the cigar of choice for the Bama Tenn game that the team gets.

Perdomo is a brand I’ve never had a bad experience with. The sun grown or Connecticut’s should fit your bill. Recently had a Rocky Patel a10 I enjoyed but don’t know much about other offerings. Other brands I’ve liked are Romeo y Julieta and Cohiba.

Yeah, I like those Deadwood infused ones like that Sweet Jane and Fat Bottom Betty.

But these are my favorite right now.

Davidoff Winston Churchill is the best cigar I’ve ever had hands down, but it’s pricey.

The Partagas Legend is also very good for a medium body cigar.

I’ve been digging these Perdomo sun growns.

A couple other questions for you to consider:

1. Are you looking for a box or just a few sticks?

2. Does the person you’re buying for have a humidor? Don’t buy a whole box for someone who is just going to put it in their closet and ruin them.

3. “Something nice but not crazy - medium bodied. Something that you might only smoke on special occasions.” This seems contradictory. I would consider what I posted above “nice but not crazy,” but wouldn’t consider it a special occasion stick. You might be better off sharing what your budget and the quantity you’re looking for and getting suggestions from there. Lots of good sticks mentioned in this thread, though.

I’d go something Padrón, Partagas or Macanudo for a non aficionado because they’re consistent and recognizable as quality without breaking the bank.

You're looking for a novice smoke. You do not want to overpower them with flavor bombs that will be strong or overwhelm them. The three above are solid I see many of my favorites in this thread, but many of these are NOT for the novice or the faint of heart. OpusX, seriously? I've been smoking for almost 30 years, I've only had two of those and do NOT get it. Beside, for a new smoker, you don't want to be spending $20.00 a stick.

Macanudo is a fine consistent cigar, especially the original line with the green band. It's smooth, and while long-standing cigar smokers may turn up their nose, many of us started with these.

The Fuente 8-5-8 is a solid choice in any wrapper.

The regular line H. Upmann is a good cigar for this, as well.

If you like the deadwoods try the acid. They are both Drew Estate. I just recently smoked a Pappy Van Winkle one and thought it was pretty dang good.

I would go with a Davidoff Grad Cru or a Millennium. Both are great cigars.

Here’s what I have at least five each of in my cabinet. I swear by any of these:

- Fuente Eye of the Bull, Short Story, Opus No. 77 Shark, Eye of the Shark, Forbidden X Amor Sensual, Rare Pink Work of Art and Happy Ending
- EP Carillo Pledge, Allegiance and the rare Pledge of Allegiance
- Padron 1926 No. 6
- Oliva V Lancero
- Liga Privada No. 9, T52 and H99 - also for a short smoke the H99 Papas Fritas is incredible
- Davidoff Escurio

My current “cost not an option” go-to is the Placenica Alma Fuerte (black) Hexagon. Swear by these.

My current budget go-to is the CAO Fasa Sol. Incredible $7 stick.
