We have two long haired blonde dachshunds...they SHED!!!!! had to have them clipped close and that helped a lot...

like others here have said, they bark a lot and we have steps for them to get up on the bed, and stools that they can use to climb onto their chairs...

The dachshund I had when I was younger was chill as hell. Loved that pup. Great dog.

You must have not raised one from s newborn. My two are great dogs. Very friendly and live attention. Aren't mean at all. Unless you are a stranger trying to get in. You do know that they are badger hunters right. I assure you that nobody will get in my house without having a problem. My male will tear your arse up. The female will sit there and bark at you enough that you would want to leave.

That is very important. It is easy for a Dachshund to break its back with even a small jump.

I had one with an ex gf. I hated that fricking dog. It shed everywhere and peed Everytime you tried to pet it. It was a short haired one though.

I let her keep it when we broke up
I almost thought I posted this. Had the exact same experience

This is true. My make is a fatboy. Classic black and weighs almost 20lbs and is considered a mini...... He can make it up on the couch. But I worry that one time when he hurls himself off it will do damage.

We've always had dachshunds and they don't shed a lot. They've all been short haired though.

Our doxie mix sheds a lot but could be the mix. He likes to eat his poop too.

I have a short haired miniature female and the shedding is not too bad mostly because the hair is so little. You can notice it on white and cream but nothing extreme. She does love to rest her vagina on things though. She would straddle my lab's legs when he sat and every now and then she will come sit on my hand when I'm not looking. Strange dog.

Bought steps for our doxie mix. Cheaper on eBay than pet stores and same brand.

I had a short haired mini as kid, she barely shed at all. She was the best pet I've ever had. She barked maybe 5 times in her life, 100 % housebroken, and she was as friendly as a dog can be. She had bad back problems that we eventually had to put her down for, which is common in the breed. Be very careful about them jumping on furniture because of this. A good friend of mine has 3 dachshunds and his experience with them is similar to mine, they just bark more. I must have been more fortunate than others in this thread because I've never met one that has been aggressive.

I don't understand the appeal of this.
Why would you want a dog that barks at anyone it doesn't know relentlessly? Sure that's great for strangers, but can you not tell it to chill the frick out once you've shown they aren't strangers?

My two dogs, 40lb lab/spaniel mutt, bark at every stranger that comes near my house. If i tell them to shut up, they do.

In my opinion, most dog owners of small dogs, allow their small dogs to pretend to be bad arse's, and think it's cute.

And what the hell is this i'm hearing an adult will still pee and shite in the house if left too long? I would bet they do this on purpose, just to show you that you pissed them off. Another way of them showing they are the alpha of the family.

That's a pretty good idea with any dog. I personally wait to read its body language, and will at most hold out my hand, and let it come to be.

We have 2, short hair and long hair English cream.

The long hair is 2 years old and this week is the first time I've noticed her shedding and it's not bad.

I don't consider my pups as badasses. But they are great at warning us if someone is there that's not supposed to be... When I say strangers I mean someone who has never been there and is not supposed to be there.
