after seeing how folks around here drive on icy roads, that's a good thing.

Agreed. The novelty wears off in a couple hours. Then it's just nasty and a hassle.

Brace yourself.

One of the most brutal Arctic cold outbreaks on record is gathering momentum and moving through North America right now.

Wind chills are hitting extremely dangerous levels of -70°F (-57°C) in Wyoming.

i'm all set and ready for the cold, but my satsuma tree is the only thing i left to tend to. when i bought it the tag said it's winter hardy and can get down to 15 degrees. the low is expected to be 18 here. but i think i'm still going to cover it. it's only 2 years old and can be covered with a tarp fairly easily if i trim it back today.

Any update on what the max lows are going to be south of the lake in nola? Really hoping I don't have to replace an entire tropical garden again. Last time this happened was 2018 when it dipped down between 20 a & 30 for 24 or so hours. So far seems like the low is mid to upper 20's.

Does Slidell still call itself the Camellia City?

When we lived in NOLA, that tag was still on it's welcome to Slidell signs but there wasn't a Camellia to be seen in bloom in winter. The Camellia centric flower shows in NOLA often were cancelled because the blooms had been frost damaged.

If I were to guess, I'd say mid-20s with a shot at briefly getting above freezing tomorrow, but I wouldn't count on it.

Highly unlikely. The wind with this front is going to be legit, and will dry most anything pretty quickly.
