TVA should have warned customers yesterday that rolling blackouts were going to be their gift to us this Christmas.
And they might want to rethink closing down their very dependable coat fired steam generating plants.

coat fired steam generating plants.
Seems counterintuitive given the temps.

The max gust up around Buffalo has been 71mph. They have steady winds of 40+ right now.

They can keep it up there

about the TVA rolling blackouts:
We generally get nasty ice storms with this sort of set up. If ice doesn't bring the transmission lines down, ice-laden tree limbs will do the job.
Wd don't seem to have had ice this time. Is that why TVA is having the blackouts? Because in other times, a large enough part of their grid has lost power through acts of Nature so they didn't need to be 100%? This time, the whole grid is very cold and dependent on them and they can't meet their demand?

Reading the responses to that TVA release on Twitter gives me a headache.

Q: Is it snow, is it sleet, is it rain, or is it flood water?
A: Yes.
A: Yes.

How are we looking for getting above freezing tomorrow in SELA? There were mentions of increased cloud cover keeping it cooler than forecast

You'll probably get there for a few hours, but it won't be much above. Likely in the 34-36° range.

Looks like BR peaked at 29 today.
That's 3-5 degrees colder than what has been projected for most of the week.

We hit 12° a bit ago. I think that's gonna be it.

My neighbors weather station has already started showing falling temps over the last hour. Down to 26.7 right now. I don’t see how we don’t go lower than the forecast tonight, as well.

Need more solar panels and wind farms. Only answer to this problem.

If it’s still and clear we’ll be in the teens, but it’s more likely that at least one of those things prevents that from happening.
There’s a possibility that a high layer of thin clouds can form, and the wind probably won’t stop yet.
In short, we don’t have ideal conditions for the best radiational cooling tonight where all warmth just leaves upward.
