That’s a pretty common thing in a large city.
As someone in an actual large city (Athens is not a large city), this is the first time I’ve ever heard of such a thing.
So no, I don’t think it’s “pretty common”

Could've been worse. At least you didn't to to Groupon to find a proctologist

I'll pay for a full scan xray. They have to show me the cavities.
Don't get this done without seeing an xray.
Insurance pays for xrays and if my dentists finds anything, she always shows me on the xray.

I don’t live in athens. I live in a city of several million people
How the hell are you supposed to choose a new dentist?
My first reaction is to go to the prestigious medical school. They wanted like $600 and didn’t take insurance.
Everywhere else it’s just going to be a crapshoot u less you can get good recommendations. Which I wasn’t getting when I got the appointment.

Same thing happened to me. I went to a dentist in north Dallas because she was hot and a coworker was friends with her. I figured this would make the dentist experience better. After the cleaning, she told me I had about 3 "flossing cavities" and pushed me to get the work done that day. They also tried to get me to buy an expensive arse electric toothbrush. I said no to all and left with an uneasy feeling.
The next week I went to a different dentist and they said everything was fine and I didn't have any cavities at all.

Ask people you know.
Bigger cities also have more active subreddits you can search.
Do research on google
Check through your dental insurance.
Groupon would be the last thing I would look at. Do you not have dental insurance?

Well, I went on my insurance providers website, found a provider covered by BCBS within walking distance to my office, and checked their reviews online. Then I booked an appointment, went on my lunch break, and was pleased with their work, so stuck with them.
But buying a coupon is another route to go, I suppose.
