Was Carter a blonde headed dude...on the thin side? “Mad Dog” Madison was crazy as shite(in a good way)...think he went to Episcopal. Haven’t heard those names in years. Believe they were in our 81mm Mortar Platoon. I remember doing a field drill at Camp Shelby in Mississippi one weekend and we were doing our yearly training in the gas chamber.....”Mad Dog” comes hauling arse through there without his mask on screaming something...went out the other side of the building and...shite barely fazed him.

Carey was pretty crazy. He is blonde headed, short. He was a gymnast. On the front cover of the Advocate, there’s a photo of y’all getting off the plane. Carey is at the top of the stairs, holding his rifle over his head.
Eric is now a captain (or major) in the Army NG.

Thanks to all you boys who served in this thread

All I have to add as a little kid - was I was mesmerized by the night vision tracer rounds on CNN with their all night reporting. Was a boy staring at TV learning about what war really means and trying to figure it all out

Wife and I were in Bossier City staying at a motel on the north side of Barksdale AFB runway. B-52's were coming and going all night long.

I was too young but I remember it. I knew a guy who was 18, got sent off and came back with horrible health problems.

A lot of folks don’t know this but they found a LOT of chemical weapons in Iraq.

(For anyone that was there, the question about whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical weapons was ridiculous. They definitely had them.)

They found a stockpile in Khamisiyah, Iraq

They decided to blow the stuff in place and weren’t necessarily aware of all the chemicals. This was all upwind of about 50k troops, my unit included. There was Sarin and Cyclosarin (nerve agents) in those shells along with who knows what else.

Within 10 months of coming back, one of the guys in my unit was confined to a wheelchair. A few months after that one of the guys in my squad died of stomach cancer. I stay in touch with a lot of the folks in my platoon. It’s a mixed bag of perfectly healthy folks to folks that have lots of weird stuff going on. I’m lucky, I’ve not had any issues and hope that I don’t going forward.

Mobilization call came down on their day. If it would have been a day earlier or latter it would have been my unit (205th). I was ready to go but glad I didn't have to go.

205th here to, I knew we were close but didn’t know it was that close to going.

USNR completed summer “drill” 8 days before Iraq invaded Kuwait. So I was way back in call up list. Good friend and 21 other ship mates lost.
