Thumbs up to both FDL and CC. Why people hate on these venerable institutions perplexes me. Everything doesn’t have to be a 4 star dining experience to be enjoyable. The memories alone at these places are ridiculously good.

The problem arises when those with nostalgia sell FDL as “the best pizza in town” to people without said nostalgia. I moved to BR when I was 18 starting undergrad. Saying FDL has great pizza is the equivalent of me saying that Pete’s in Lafayette had the town’s best burger just because I have fond memories of going there after my games as a kid
I don’t knock it because it’s not fine dining. I knock it because the pizza is mediocre at best no matter whether I’ve had it in restaurant or take out at friends’ houses.
So for those of you who grew up on it and it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, that’s awesome, and you should continue going. Just keep the rest of us out of it

It’s always sucked IMO. Local place with a cult following. But I never understood the love. Like the shitty greasy pizza place in Government street.
You seem like a very unhappy person.

I always thought it was too good for a shitty location next to Office Depot.
You have to get the beignet fingers. They are the tits.

Message boards just have a tendency to fixate on the disagreements

About FDL sucking, or message boards fixating on disagreements?

Maybe you just got an unfortunate batch, frying beignets isn’t really some complicated process that couldn’t get passed on to a new owner

Last time I was there(2019), the girl behind the counter was snagging bites of beignets off of the plate before serving them.

I thought he was talking about Rocca at first.

Kid me thought it was the best thing ever. And if you have kids in tow and are just leaving a little league game, it's a great spot (or at least it was; I've heard it's had issues). But I would never suggest it as "the best burger in town" to someone asking for restaurant recommendations

Pete's was best when it was a seedy pool hall, and didn't pretend to be a restaurant chain. I'm talking about the late 80s.
I haven't been in years, but Max's Pool Hall had the best burger in Lafayette back in the day.

I'm in my mid-30's, so I would have been at Pete's starting in the late 80's after soccer games through the 90's after... all the games of all the things. I think it had kinda sorta been cleaned up a bit by then, but it was still a dark, dirty smoker's den when I was a kid. But man, that shuffleboard was on point.

Pete's tried to be family-friendly and opened several locations in the 90s, and was never the same.

Why in the blue hell would you have FDL as take-out, at a friends' house? Half of the charm of FDL is going in and being abused by the crusty, angry, old battle wagon that works as a waitress.
If she is too busy to abuse you, just ask her how much longer until your pizza is ready. She will make time.

Because I was going over to a friend's house for a get together and that's what they were serving. I had no choice in the matter
