slaves had tremendous value to owners, keeping them healthy was very important, other than the fact that slavery sucks..Germany tried to eradicate a race, there is no comparison, i have little doubt the concentration camp inmates would have much preferred a southern plantation.

yes, the blacks slaves should have been content by reminding themselves that orhers in the world had it worse.
So where is the cuttoff? Owning and abusing slaves makes the cut?

Enslaving people equals to killing millions, invading countries and starting WWII, yep spot on.

No doubt killing a million is worse. But where is the cutoff? I am referring to the point of the OP, not saying that they are equal.
His point obviously flew over the heads of many.

Have not read this thread yet FYI

From my travels throughout Germany, the majority are still ashamed by their a eaters actions. Sight seeing in Berlin and other major cities is almost a let down as the Germans destroyed a ton of major historical buildings and sites out of shame. The bunker that hitter killed himself in is completely shut off the public and you would never know you were standing over it unless told. It's beneath the street of an area of town surrounded by apartment buildings and parking lots

i mean yeah if you want to despise the confederacy for slavery even though the U.S. government was fully a joint partner in this for 100 years thats fine, but with few outlying examples the confederate armies fought a defensive and a "civilized" war..you can't compare the savagery of the nazi`s to the south.

Why are you arguing that in this specific thread?

These things happened on both sides and what was worse was the way the South was treated after the war.

The Civil war was fought over something totally different than what WWII was fought over. The South didn't just start killing black people when they knew they were not going to win. The South didn't attack because they wanted an all white race and to rule the world. They fought for their rights (no matter how wrong there were) as states to govern themselves. The Rebel flag was and is a symbol of rebellion not mass murder.

Again, what does any of the confederates actions against the north have to do with nazi Germany? The main goal of invading the north was to take control of the industrialized portions of our country, not commit mass genocide. It's beyond idiotic to compare the two historical set of circumstances

GF's ex is German and she spent a lot of time over there. She says you won't find many open sympathizers (for one thing, it's against the law.) Among the older generation, there's a lot of "we had no idea what was going on." The younger generation, meaning those born after the war (which is the majority nowadays) just tends to ignore recent history.

The Allies had a lot to do with that too.

I meant post war, there are twice as many memorials in just Berlin alone as there are of actual WWII remains. No matter where you go throughout the city, if you are looking for historical sites, you will be reminded of how modern day Germany had nothing to do with it.
