They love the Queen who’s been Queen for 70 years. People will quickly not GAF once she dies and men take over.

I'm only basing my opinion on a 10 second google search and not a board based in the southern US though.
My daughter is a citizen of the UK, is married to an Englishman, and lives near Nottingham. Most of the well educated think the monarchy is an anachronism. Most of the lower class seem to think of it the way our unsophisticates think of Hollywood - as the fascinating subjects of tabloid.
Regardless, the monarchy is a big money maker for the UK, as it attracts a lot of tourism that more than compensates for their obnoxious expenditures.

Ha, whut? Have you ever spent any time the the UK?
Again, my daughter is a Brit. She and her husband both have PHds and work for universities, he as a professor and she in administration. Their lifestyle is lower than someone living in Kenner - that is, South Kenner. They live in a duplex, their side of which is about 1200 square feet. He is 37; she is 33. They have two children, four and 5 months old, and they were finally able to buy a used car recently. Until then they walked and took the bus everywhere. So yeah, the lifestyle in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe, is nowhere near the lifestyle here in the States. But with the advent of socialism, we'll get there!

It's bizarre to most Brits that Congress has so many obstacles in the way of getting legislation passed.
The American system is far superior. Our founders realized that the impulses of democracy must be smoothed over, and radical change must NOT be implemented unless, and until, it is desired for a long period of time. This prevents irrational impulses of the demos from being implemented.

Better question is why do American have a fascination with the Royals?
Poor Charles will never be King because he will die before that 130 year old queen will.

Eh a Full English Breakfast is good but has some weird parts lol. I prefer a classic southern breakfast for sure. American bacon > British bacon.

Many people subconsciously love the idea of "control."

We'll see how this changes when Charles is in charge.

The only thing that keeps her from ever doing it is the realization that it would lead to a mass revolt that would end the monarchy.
What are they going to revolt with? Butter knives?

Someone’s been watching “The Crown” on Netflix.

Oh really? Is that why everyone in this country hates each other? And why we have such a large number of uneducated? And why our murder rate and percentage of imprisoned is so high? Yes, we are vastly superior to the UK

The same reason we gawk at movie stars and famous folks.
I do think the tradition of the monarchy and its history is probably the most interesting aspect. Our government is so young here in contrast its interesting to see how theirs developed over time.

because every young girl has been indoctrinated to want to be a princess for the last 80 years. I'm looking at you, Disney.

I wish something like that was possible here in America. The "not my President nonsense" in 2016 is a great example of how giving both roles to POTUS can be problematic.
There is probably a lot to be said for having American royalty and American "management" and not letting them intersect

It would probably be Oprah, though.

Season 4 of the Crown sure is brutal. Seems really silly to me to have a modern family in these modern times. Seriously, Brits love to joke about Americans all the time but look at yourselves! You still have a monarch that affects government policy.

If/when the majority of the people in the UK decide that the expense of supporting the monarchy is no longer outweighed by the tradition of the monarch being the face of the state, then either the current MPs will embrace republicanism or be replaced by MPs who run on a republican platform. Parliament would then vote on abolishing the monarchy.
The republicans in the house of commons already plan on holding a referendum after QE2 dies, just to test the waters. Charles and William are not as well liked as the Queen is and public support is likely to wain, though a majority of the public will likely still support the institution. I do think the monarchy will be abolished in our lifetime, especially if economic disparity continues to widen.
