To anyone interested in a great $30 knife to carry, the Ontario Rat 2 is great. Rat 1 if you prefer a larger version.

Chris Reeve Sebenza. The large is my favorite, but I carry the small more often I’ll pass them down to my boys. Next purchase will be the mnandi.

I carry a Benchmade mini grip 556 almost everyday. I have a second for when I misplace it. Today I used it to cut the corner off a bag of quikrete so it would pour nicely instead of busting it open and ending up with concrete everywhere. There are not many days I don’t use it for something. It has cleaned a deer or two when I couldn’t find my skinning knife, cut up many a a piece of cut bait when I didn’t want to get a fillet knife, been used as a steak knife, cut open too many bags of fertilizer and seed to count, and cut open too much mail. I also have some other more expensive Benchmades; 943, 940-2, 535GRY, 960, and 3300; and some other “cheap” knives. But I am so used to carrying the 556 I usually grab it. After carrying a good knife for years a cheap knife feels like trash, and I feel guilty cutting open bags of fertilizer with a $200 knife.
