These are American ports serving foreign businesses using American labor.
Would you rather they use foreign labor?
American labor is already too high for our middle class.

Do you know how absolutely MINISCULE these dockworkers' pay is in the budgets of these huge multinational shipping companies?! Christ....this isn't some mom and pop restaurant operating on the thinnest of margins here. To pretend a few million in extra comp every year is going to lead to a measurable increase in retail prices is absolutely fricking laughable and puts your misunderstanding of macroeconomics in plain view.

What?
Explain how that would work, please. How are these companies going to get foreign dockworkers on federally approved work visas to work American ports? Talk about political suicide.

Exactly.
Evidently automation is cheaper than human output in the dock industry, which means we're fricking up using human labor.
We didnt become world leader by using uneconomical labor practices.

Your president flooded the country with poor foreigners who are legally allowed to work in this country.
Which puts downward pressure on wages.

Starting at the Federal Government ......

forklift operators are highly skilled.....
Let's face it, the longshoremen are in a position of power and can hold the country ransom! And they did!

Who are legally allowed to take employment in this country.

This pretty much seals their fate. It is no longer economically feasible to use human labor. Automation is coming, and this will accelerate its inevitable implementation.

These dockworkers are not average joes, you fricking idiot. They earn around 160,000/year and have insane benefits, which is far beyond the median income in America. They earn way more than market rate for comparable jobs. They have earned this high income via monopolistic practices. They also highly restrict entry into their field, which hurts actual “average joes” who would love to be a dock worker

Precisely.
The difference in labor cost from the US to most nations is horrific. The Government destruction of the dollar is to blame.
Why wouldnt companies offshore or use foreign labor?

Ask for a huge raise then try and eliminate automation of your job. Nothing screams Monopoly more than this. Unions can go to hell. Any wonder why companies are leaving the U.S.

YOU ARE frickING RETARDED.
Numerous studies have shown that European ports are cheaper than American ports, which, all else held equal, has provided cost savings to European consumers
