Every year! Dye them in old coffee beans and tea leaves. Got my arse kicked by my 7 year old niece. It's a tradition we plan to keep in the family

Edit: we make deviled eggs with half and pickle half. Ate about a dozen deviled eggs and bombed out my truck on the way home haha

It's Paquing. I think it is a waste. I made potato salad and deviled eggs with the colored Easter eggs. Cracking them is a waste of food. I would think most maw maws would think this was a sin wasting food, no?

Yes. Both sides are from Avoyelles. What's Easter if you don't have dozens & dozens of eggs to 'paque'?

We grew up doing this. The winner kept the losing egg if you must know. I can understand your ignorant Alabama arse not knowing about anything pertaining to our heritage. Par for the course.

When I was in elementary school, we brought a basket to school to pock eggs and used them for the Easter egg hunt. Although it was a public school, 99% were Catholic Cajuns. I guess that would not fly today.

In Avoyelles Parish it is a big time thing. Marksville has a huge contest at the courthouse and Cottonport has "Knocking on the Bayou". Both contests have pretty substantial cash prizes as well as other prizes. They have different age groups with different catergories (chicken, guinea). Some people take this stuff pretty serious, doing everything from hanging their eggs in a stocking prior to the contest to feeding there chickens a diet including oyster shells to make the egg shells harder. Last time I checked it was not a "waste" of the eggs as they are still used for deviled eggs and potato salad.
